Has anyone on here tried getting deliveries to a boat without a home address?
I quite fancy trying it.

Time for a rant ... well a mini rant ... a sort of rantette Is anyone else getting really peed off with the sanctimonious types that can't wait to tell you how unsafe the world is, and how the virus hasn't gone away ... how they're not going out like all the 'idiots' and how they have EVERYTHING delivered so they can disinfect it and continue to hide in their bunker ... a second spike is coming ... then a third ... But the selfish hermits utterly forget all the retail suppliers and pickers, and maintenance and delivery drivers and everyone else in the supply chain that has to carry on as normal, taking normal life risks just to keep the hermits safe. No ... just me ? Well I've vented now ... off to the shop Rog

"Sainsbury's and Costa Coffee said their staff will not challenge customers who enter their stores without masks, while Asda said enforcement was the "responsibility of the relevant authorities". But Waitrose will have staff at the entrance reminding customers of the rule, and Tesco will be selling face coverings at shop entrances." From www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53522129

There's room here for all views. Out and abouters can go out and about. Hermits can wait for the out and abouters to achieve herd immunity and the virus fizzle out. Nobody is wrong. If everyone did the same i.e. stay in or go out, we'd either be swamped with the virus or it would be here forever. I believe it's all going ok with this middle ground approach where basically everyone is left more or less to behave as they see fit.

Throughout this situation I have behaved as I always do, out and about and no I don't wash my hands more than twice a day and no I don't ever wear a mask.

That's the same for me ..... at the moment get deliveries to the Tug companies office, they are quite happy about it but when it's big stuff it would be very handy to get it delivered directly to the moorings (the Tug office is about a 16 mile round trip)
(Incidentally I wore a mask to call at the local Coop yesterday evening, which was the first time and it was only because I had been wearing it for a job at the drydock where there was lots of dust. ...... I was the only one there doing so))

Tesco seems happy to deliver if you give them a nearby address to head for. Just marked on the delivery address as the green and cream boat next to...

"Chaos in shops and cafes as face masks become compulsory TODAY but customers ignore rules and police say it's up to stores to enforce them but Asda, Sainsbury's, Costa Coffee and Co-op REFUSE to do so"
Will the Police be fining Asda, Sainsbury's, Costa Coffee and the Co-op? Have these shops broken The Law?
" John Apter, chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales, said: 'I would urge retail outlets to play their part in making the rules crystal clear - if you are not wearing a face covering then you are not coming in. Officers will be there to help stores if needed - but only as a last resort, as we simply do not have the resources.' "
"Shop staff do not have to wear coverings"
"Premises which are exempt include: restaurants with table service and bars, including those in hotels or members' clubs; pubs; libraries; law firms; medical and dental practices; vets; cinemas; theatres; museums and galleries; aquariums, indoor zoos or visitor farms, or other indoor tourist, heritage or cultural sites; nightclubs; bingo halls; concert halls, public halls; conference centres; indoor fitness studios; gyms; leisure centres; indoor swimming pools; water parks; bowling alleys; funfairs; theme parks; amusement arcades; indoor soft play areas; indoor sports arenas; casinos; hotels; spas; beauty salons and hairdressers; tattoo and piercing parlours; storage centres; funeral directors; photography studios and auction houses."
Good to know the virus can't be transmitted in libraries, gyms and bingo halls!

Has anyone on here tried getting deliveries to a boat without a home address? I quite fancy trying it. Yes, quite frequently. I just use the postcode of the nearest house/pub/landmark and then quote "narrowboat "********" at Canal Bridge" as the first line of the address. I wait at the bridge to save the driver hassle and a friendly wave usually suffices to let them know they have arrived. Most are really obliging about helping deliver by trolley directly to the boat (where possible) - one guy reversed his van about quarter of a mile down the towpath to deliver to the side hatch! Really saves struggling with the heavy stuff. Would recommend you give it a try.

We have gone home delivery this week, not really because of the mask thing but more to do with being lazy and finding food shopping dull.
Amazon are now doing a home delivery via Morrisons, app is called Prime now, worked really well, maybe they are more open to delivering to boats than the supermarkets.
One good thing is they message you via the app to say something is not available and offer an alternative which you can reject or accept there and then.
Even get notifications on my Apple watch.....

Called at Tesco ... no queuing and it's a monstrously huge store , so no one-way system or being ordered about. I covered my face (to everyone's relief) and had to tell staff I was smiling at them I did see several people without face coverings but of course they may be exempt. It's no big issue to cover the face ... pointless ... but no big issue. Rog

" Meanwhile, customers reported seeing fights break out in supermarkets, with masked shoppers confronting those not wearing a covering.
One person wrote: '10:05am I entered Sainsbury’s, 10:08am there’s a fight in the second isle because someone hasn’t got a mask on and the lady with her kid was panicking and shouting at the anti masker ..... end result?
'Lady picks up a tub of double cream and throws it in their face.' "
