I've made it to the house after six months and been hit in the face by the realities of life ... I've been rightly admonished for being grumpy so opened this thread so I'm not annoying anyone with my rants unless they choose to read on.
A letter from my bank (where I've been an account holder since 1968 ) telling me that having closed down my local branch in 2018, they've now closed down the one they transferred me to back then ... I now have to travel to Barnsley ... oh and by the way they're no longer Yorkshire Bank, they're now Virgin money.
A letter from my dentist dated March 2020, saying if I do not respond within 14 days, the incomplete treatment that I have already paid for will be abandoned and I'll have to pay again ... despite my receiving three texts from them, and also speaking to them on the phone since March when the contents of the letter were never mentioned.
Eventually I have managed to sort this out by phone ... but I still cannot have an appointment for the work to be done, or a broken tooth/filling to be looked at yet ... they'll contact me.
I was offered a telephone appointment with the dentist ... no seriously ... a genuine offer ... what the hell?
A letter from a Mutual Society I have been a member of for 45 years, and have a number of ongoing savings policies with, telling me they're now part of Royal London Insurance ... they'll honour existing policies but any new investments will be with them.
Seeking to upgrade my Three data allowance (£20 per month for 20gb) I was turned away from the Three shop as they can only sell 'stuff' to new customers ... existing customers have to go online or ring.
To do either of those things the first question asked is 'what is your phone number?' ... it's a mobile wifi ... there is no phone number ... 'it'll be on your bill' ... but I don't have bills I just pay direct debit ... usually shop staff have put in my details and worked on my account but they can't do that anymore !
Eventually I track down the phone number ... even though it's not a phone ... and go on line ... and get Mukesh who chats to me politely for 15 minutes before telling me I'll have to ring at 8am for the upgrade team ... why he didn't just say that at first ...
8am I'm on it ... ringing every five minutes thinking there'll be queues ... have to programme in the number and why I'm ringing ... only to get a Welcome message but the office isn't open until 8am ... but it's after 8 am ... so I keep trying ... and trying ... and trying ...
Eventually get to speak to someone at 9.05am and 12 mins later I'm on unlimited data for £18 per month ... but the pent up frustration is driving me nuts ... glad we don't have dogs or I'd be kicking them round the house.
I'll not bore you with more irritations ... suffice to say I'll be happy to get back home on the boat.
