Living out here and rarely venturing into the "real world" I seem to catch a cold if I catch a bus so ... taking this virus and government guidelines seriously I wore a mask for the first time today.....
I don't think I'll die of the virus - there's a far greater chance of suffocation, spontaneous combustion or - most likely - being run over by some deranged bemasked motorist who JUST CAN'T SLOW DOWN in the middle of a small town when I try to give another pedestrian just a couple of feet of distance.
Just saying - to create a new thread!

I felt like a right wally walking around Morrisons wearing a mask the other day, but for many it will be a life saver, and we should probably have been doing it much earlier. Thankfully I don't personally know anyone who has died from the virus, but I would never downplay the risk. For certain groups of people it is lethal- pure and simple. Many survivors are left with permanent damage to lungs or other organs, and some with mental impairments. It is an absolutely horrific virus, and I find it crazy how so many young people can carry it and barely have a cough, yet others can be almost killed by it. This might sound like overkill, but I've gone as far as spraying items of shopping with disinfectant when I get home, just in case there is any lingering virus on the surfaces, and every time I get back in the car I give my hands, keys and the steering wheel a quick dousing with sanitiser. I would advise everyone to be overly cautious in handling anything touched by several other people, and to give people without masks a slightly wider berth. You really, really don't want to get this thing. My younger brother had it two months ago, and said it is the worst he has ever felt in his life. He was a navy diver back in the day, as tough as old boots and never had a wimpy day in his life, and he openly admitted to being reduced to tears by the sheer pain and frustration of constantly fighting for breath and having no strength in his body. He's in his mid 50s but in very good shape. God only knows what it might do to me.

I'm careful because at my age, if I catch it my survival chances are not good. However it's here and you can't hide away from it totally or life would just not be worth living.
I am going and working in the drydock where often social distancing is not possible and out on barges where the wheelhouse is no more than a wooden box with only just room for two standing ..... yes some risk, but the number of people I am in contact with is small and when shopping etc I take care. This morning I did a massive shop at Morrisons to re supply for my trip, I arrived in their carpark at 5 past 7 virtually no one there. Did my shop (wearing a mask for the first time) and was back on board by just after 8. So doing things like that I avoid a lot of contact but still do things that make my life worth while (working on boats and working boats)
If I catch it then so be it but I'm not going to hide away from the world

I've just been to the shop and our on the streets and in the shop no-one is doing 'social distancing' or wearing masks. Teenagers huddled in groups in the school yard around their mopeds and quad bikes.
