Going back to the 50% discount. Ate in the Red tonight. Had a discussion with landlady re whether it includes non alcoholic drinks when purchased on the premises, but not with food. I think it does.. she says not. Anyone know for sure? Yes it does include non-alcoholic drinks. This is why the likes of Costa coffee shops are registered. Of course I suppose the landlady can choose not to agree to sell you soft drinks at 50% off just as you can choose to go elsewhere. www.gov.uk/guidance/get-a-discount-with-the-eat-out-to-help-out-schemeon the other hand, perhaps if she wants to partake of the scheme she has to do it properly. Show her the above link and if she still refuses, say you’re going to report her (and then never buy anything there again, unless you like spit or worse).

I just want to know so I can argue my point at the next pub that says the same. I would also add that this scheme is wide open to abuse. Sort of sums up our government, nothing is made clear.

Are the Cropredy pubs registered for the 50% deal? Its not a given that they are If they are then non alcoholic drinks should be 50%, along with a meal only, up to £10 discount Both pubs are yes. I’ve read HMRC and greene kings website. Both suggest that you can just order non alcoholic drinks and get the discount. I suspect that many businesses are claiming the discount and pocketing it themselves rather than passing it on to the customer. Much as many narrowboat hire companies which also sell diesel refuse to give visiting boaters the diesel split they ask for because they fiddle it into their own boats. And sell gas bottles which always have a week's worth of gas missing. Allegedly.

From my link: “Use the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme at a participating establishment: to get a 50% discount on food or non-alcoholic drinks to eat or drink in (up to a maximum of £10 discount per diner)” I don’t see how it could be made much clearer.

Yes, I agree, but both pubs in Cropredy think differently. Ali has said that the eat out to help out slogan doesn’t help.. but yeh, seems clear to me.

Like I said, that will be because the pubs are fiddling the discount away from the customer and into their own tills.

Talking of abuse, anyone yet know the name of the rogue rapist the Tory Party has amongst them? Nothing quite like throwing half the nation out of work and then pushing a £10 voucher into their mitts for a slap-up supper of 'home made' microwaved pie, frozen peas and McCain oven-ready chips.

Going back to the shop, I am surprised anyone finds the pricing high in a convenience store ... you pay for the convenience in addition to the goods ... I don't have a problem with that as long as shopping in them remains optional. I always endeavour to buy something in these small local shops, even at extortionate prices as I hope they remain in business ... and in some places (eg Braunston) the village shop and butchers is all there is without jumping on a bus into town ... now bus fares are another issue ... public transport should be a public service provided for all ... I blame Beeching and the road transport lobby Rog

People are funny, Bedworth has Aldi and then over the other side of the road is a corner shop, does well I think, never understand why people wouldn't cross the road to save money.

Seems the lid has been kept on his name. I see the lefties are 'outraged' that the chap in question hasn't been fired. What they forget, our lefty friends, is that the law in this country states that you are innocent of any crime until proven guilty. We do not operate our country on the basis of witchcraft any longer. Neither should a female have the ability to get someone she doesn't liked fired, simply by accusing him of rape. Not that I'm suggesting that the M.P. is a victim of a vicious hoax allegation of rape but there again we won't know whether this is the case or not until the case in heard in those little rooms we have dotted around the country, you know, courts of law.

Maybe the corner shop operates a credit account system ... back at the house when we were first married our 'corner shop' certainly did. Thankfully it's been a good few years since we've been in that situation ... happen as well as the shop is gone Rog

It's another 'one law for MPs one law for the rest'. It's illegal to name an MP who has been arrested, law passed by (yes you guessed MPs) in 2016. No such blanket law applies to any other group of people. Why not?
