What I don't like, are boaters who are moored nearby all day & then turn the engine on after 7pm.I sit there waiting to see if they turn it off at 8pm,so I end up feeling tense.Yep,I know it's my fault but I can feel myself scrunching up inside.P reckons they're heating up water which we don't need to do-as we fitted an immersion heater on our boat for days when we don't run the engine.

Telemachus makes a good point, two hour slot 2-4pm should do it, miss you slot, hard lines 👍🤔

Immersion heated? Only on landline I expect?

I imagine it's probably more because their battery bank is starting to give up the ghost and so charging the batteries as late as possible during the "permitted period" gives the boater the best chance of keeping the fridge running all night until the window of engine opportunity opens again at 08:00. This is the situation I find myself in at the moment until I can find £240 for a new set of leisure batteries, I'll set up a crowdfunding page if anyone thinks that would help.

Incorrect, depends on where you are. 8-8 makes no difference on the EA controlled waterways, if you are a nuisance to others running any engine you are breaking a bylaw; irrespective of the time of day. Sadly the attitudes and habits of the cut slowly filter through, noise, overstaying, inconsiderate mooring even bloody speed - I've had a couple of loons yell 4mph at me on the river despite there being sodding great signs at every lock stating the speed limit is 7mph. To be fair though, we normally encounter more good than bad and I'm absolutely chomping at the bit to get moving 🚤👍🍻

Or just perhaps ... they're doing as they please ... that would be fun wouldn't it .
But I'm a good boy ... I'll stick to all your rules ... wouldn't want to unnecessarily enjoy myself by accident.
No, really ... don't moor near me.

I hate noisy group barbecues ... screaming kids running around ... dinghies and inflatables with parents and kids splashing about having fun ... barky, yappy dogs ... cats that walk all over your boat leaving prints ... people getting louder and louder as they drink the night away as it gets darker ... loud music whether you want to listen or not ... sports commentaries whether you want to listen or not ... d.i.y. types that sand, drill and saw whether you want to listen or not ... chatty types that decide they're talking to you come what may ... people that decide they're mooring with you because "there's safety in numbers" ...
but I realise I don't rule the world so I wouldn't dream of judging them or demanding they desist or change their ways.
If someone joins me on a mooring they must accept me or move on.
If I join someone on a mooring (I try not to) I endeavour to ensure nothing I do will cause annoyance ... but mostly I try to moor away from others.

Well this thread has concreted my opinions on grumpy boaters, moaning about things other boaters are doing within the rules

I just think it's all outrageous.
When I did the speed awareness course the bloke asked the group "what is it that other drivers do that really annoys you?"
People answered "drive too close, don't indicate" etc
Perhaps rather bluntly my suggestion was "exist".
