So what are your interpretations of this notice?
Spent the day locked up... due to it - although did find a small gap to pick up essential supplies (where there is a will there is a way!).
Myself and some hire boaters intend to try to walk into town tonight, should this be possible considering the notice?
'Towpath closure between bridges 50 and 58 Detail
From Date: 22/06/2020 08:00
To Date: 09/09/2020 18:00 inclusive
Type: Towpath Closure
Reason: Maintenance
Is the towpath closed? Yes Location
Closest waterway: Kennet & Avon Canal
Starts at: Bridge 58, A339 Flyover
Ends at: Bridge 50, Ham Marsh Bridge Updates
18/06/2020 16:01
Further to the notice below, the towpath improvement works at Newbury have been delayed and will now commence on Monday 29th June. The project is expected to be completed on Wednesday 9th September.
Preparatory and engineering works will be going ahead however, between Bridge 58 (A339 Flyover) and Bridge 53 (Whitehouse Cross-over Bridge near Tesco) from Monday 22 June until Friday 26 June. This section of towpath will therefore be closed during working hours but available during the evenings and weekends.
The full closure advertised below will now come into effect from Monday 29th June.
Please contact us at enquiries.walessouthwest@canalrivertrust.org.uk'
No signs on the towpath and no work being carried out today as far as I can tell - towpath blocked at both ends (and all official entrances/exits by high fences).
PS. WTF does it take over two months to upgrade 1 mile of towpath (no cables being removed or added)?

I'd use it if I could then fly an email off to CRT asking questions...

Still locked in...
Compound security guard says he will let me out in an emergency though - just wake him up first...

I'd say that the beer acquisition protocol is an emergency.
Can you not move the vessel closer to the shop and defeat the enclosure somehow?

As for H & S of the 'secure construction site' some questions will need to be answered tomorrow before I calm down.....

We can all sleep safely, then. Only until midday tomorrow It's unclear to me where you are 'locked up'. Care to embellish?

I'm amazed that they have security on the job for this sort of thing.
Does the CRT managing director have a relative who does signage AND one with a security company?
What next? Lock gate repairs?

Yes I know I can just sail away but sometimes it might be worth staying and making a fuss before sailing away.

Are you serious about the security? For towpath works??
What the heck.
ETA to be fair with this idiot weather about to hit it might not be such a bad idea to be in a secure compound. Maybe you can offer the security man a 20% deal where you buy a crate of fosters and he gets a couple of cans (rely on the tendency of most people to be shit at math).

That sounds quite bad.
Have they found a load of NPK somewhere?
Or maybe some discarded remains of Newbury bypass eco-worriers hastily disposed of by the contractors.
Or is it an HS2 thing.
No it isn't but might be worth it for the publicity !
