So many doing a vlog now...its all a bit lame. And to think Ross believes yet another vid of the entire system is a) a good idea and b) novel. What a ridonculous twat. However one about some bloke and his sex doll would totally work. TBH, it has potential for a whole new sub-genre. So zeitgeist. Also, this hypothetical fat bloke would ideally call his vlog 'Watery Wanderings' or some such trite shit like that.
Precious and affected as the narrator of this production often seems to me, I sometimes watch the output because I like the canine. What a nice woofer.
(there is a lot of boring waffle on this one - cut to 8.40-ish).

And to think Ross believes yet another vid of the entire system is a) a good idea and b) novel. All of the blogs and vlogs and YouTube and Vimeo videos and quadcopter clips are all different. What I should like to see is a standardised speeded-up smooth video of each canal/waterway from end to end, and then from the other direction. I am not aware of anything like this made yet. Not properly. Many of the videos made are of poor quality, and even I get fed up with a couple sitting at the table droning on and on about what they did all day. Some here will no doubt bring up the "I like the spontaneity and surprise element of not knowing what's coming" but I like to plan ahead and I don't mind 'spoilers' because I find when we get there although I have the background knowledge it's still all new. I'm happy that people have made an effort to film their canal adventures, I have enjoyed watching many, many clips, and I know a lot about waterways where we haven't been yet.

I'm having trouble sourcing a sex doll of the appropriate stature and quality, but my enthusiasm in this area of endeavour is very high. Since I started to make my narrowboat plans public among friends and family, I've had several requests to post regular videos of my travels and tribulations on Facebook. And that got me thinking- could I press my sex doll 'Maggie May' into service, and start a youtube channel covering our journey? I think I can pull it off.

As an almost complete novice taking on the Nene in a week or two, I'm with you on this Mr Fox. The 'how-to' videos look really helpful (and in particular the ones about installing stoves, which I'll be doing before the year is out). Having looked at a large scale map of my likely route from Pope's corner to Northampton it appeared that a construction called Denver Sluice would be a key obstacle, so I looked for videos titled Denver Sluice, to get an idea of how it worked and what it looked like. I was surprised by the video that appeared at the top of the search list. I think the lady lacked a co-star, and I felt a modern Sid James might be just the ticket, but nonetheless her video was informative and helpful, although I learned nothing about Denver Sluice, other than it is a real thing.

I posted that video* but decided, as this is a 'family forum', it crossed the line of.... well, I don't know... morality or sensibility. I think that's the only 'issue' - Denver Sluice to Salter's Lode lock - but, isn't it just a 3-minute jump? Don't forget the special key/windlass for Ashline Lock. * there are others, such as her vacuuming a house for a half-hour. Quite bizarre.

Yes, I'm sure you're right- there's a contact number on the waterways map for a few of those non-standard connecting locks and gates, but there isn't one for Denver Sluice, so I'm hoping that means its pretty straightforward. I'm struggling to get hold of an EA key at the moment, and the current plan to resolve this is to drive to Jones Chandlers at St Ives once I have the Bill of Sale completed and signed off. Hopefully that will be enough evidence for them to sell me a key over the counter, but the extra pissing about with that means I won't make Denver Sluice on day 1. My rough plan at the moment is to make sure I rock up at the Sluice fairly early in the day, to give myself the best possible chance of getting through it and onto the Nene with minimum delays. I want to do a couple of fettling jobs, but I think they can wait until I reach the GU, and I can rely on being able to stop in one place for a few days, in case of the very likely event that one of my DIY bodges goes wrong.

Nobody on here knows anything about sex dolls. There was some discussion a while ago but it turned out that it was not a doll. OK, time to come clean. I don't actually own a sex doll of any type, much less one that I call 'Maggie May'. But think how much more fun those pieces to camera would be sat at the dinette, with a tastefully decorated sex doll at my side. It's pretty niche, I'll admit. But I think with the plethora of narrowboat channels on youtube, I need a USP of some sort. I can't make 'how to' videos, because I dont know how to do anything on a boat. In my more fanciful moments I imagine my sparkling personality might be a plus point, but then I remember what a boring anorak I actually am. I'm certainly not going to spend any significant time crafting videos that will be watched by 50 people at most, so production quality will most assuredly be very low indeed. So I'm looking at either getting a dog, or a sex doll.

I'd go for neither and probably not bother with a camera either.
Just do the boat thing.

I can see where you're coming from Patty- keep it all family-friendly, right? I'd actually love to rig something up so I could steer the boat from the cabin, and leave the sex doll at the helm looking as if she's steering

I really hate the way they include the audience laughter in these comedy clips. I was watching some fast show stuff and they do the same thing. Really spoils it.

I'd actually love to rig something up so I could steer the boat from the cabin, and leave the sex doll at the helm looking as if she's steering It's a bit complicated but not rocket science to do indoor steering on a narrow boat. What you need is a hydraulic steering system and a Morse control dual helm system. Might cost a few hundred quid to get the hardware sorted but it would definitely be quite funny. I did see a narrow boat "steering itself" once and must admit it was quite odd. No sex doll in that instance at it was raining very heavily. I think the shift from tiller at the back to wheel at the front might be quite cerebrally challenging and you would be liable to whack into things. I suppose you could always blame it on the doll rather than the guy.

I so hope you are not in the closet I am beyond the closet Mr N. Important tip here though, from the master himself- keep the sex doll upright during filming.
