Look for a boat with scratches all down the side?

I reckon TonyDunkley might have explained that above. Yes he is a vapouring old senile curmudgeonly git with a forest on his shoulder but he does know what he is talking about I think he writes very well, and, as I have said before, I think Tony should set some hours aside each day for writing his memoirs and/or how things used to be on the waterways, before that knowledge is lost forever.

I agree with that. He has very high quality writing. Unusually good in fact. Definitely in the top 3 on this forum. The fact he is a moaning old git is definitely secondary at least in my mind. The comment about loss of knowledge is one of the reasons I agree that banning him from canalworld, which will over time become a knowledge database, was rather a short sighted strategy. Just because he is rude and belligerent does not mean he is wrong, and old school knowledge being passed down is just what is needed. Well at least that's the theory but I am beginning to subscribe the the belief that people get what they order.

I find it hard to believe that amount of damage could have been caused by a boat either not untying before trying to leave the lock, or getting hung up on it's ropes. If all those coping stones came down I would expect them to sink any boat under them.

A boater has done it he thought he had a leak so tied his boat up and emptied the lock! he has admitted it to CRT so know doubt his insurance will be asked to pay up? If they dont I suppose he will have to pay for the damage

"There’s a few boaters around that area with dubious boats that have been a pain to CaRT for years, often seen by Sainsbury’s or the County Hall, if one of those I doubt they can pay, if you boat that area you will know what I mean."
"They were there when I passed through the other week, they go there for the shower. If it was one of them."

ooo look at Tony's little pet fox. . . . . . . . . . . . Someone should perhaps tell him where meadow lane lock is. Assuming from what you've said that you know where Meadow Lane Lock is - I know you've used it at least once - has it occurred to you what thoroughly poor value your £600 (plus) a year phony Rivers Only Licence is with that lock out of use, the river impassable some 6 miles away at Barton Island due to the dangerous sandbanks and tides, and your boat stuck in between at Beeston ? I reckon a phony Licence that, at present, is costing you a bit over £100 per mile per year for the 5 miles of junk strewn canal and 1 mile of shoal draught river available to you to go boating on is a really bum deal. What you could do with is a Boating Representative on the C&RT Council to help you with claiming a refund !

Another picture of the damaged lock. Stolen from elsewhere. That seems rather severe !! How could a ladder take out so much stonework? Seems rather odd.
