I’m supposed to have been sat in the middle of the river for the last three weeks am I? Here's my reply again, . . this time in larger type face and double spaced so it's easier for you to understand : You were made aware via C&RT Notice/Updates, timed at 1449 hrs on 11 August, that there was a
craneboat on the way to Meadow Lane with an ETA of sometime this afternoon, which was in plenty
of time for you to have got to Barton Island well ahead of it this morning, . . which, as things turned
out, would have meant you spending no more than 3 hours aground before it arrived !
Would that really be such a terrible hardship, . . for an aspiring 'Boaters Representative', and such
a devoted champion of our inland waterways ?

So what would it have achieved? Other than making Tony happy, actually I take that back. I don’t think anything will make Tony happy.

So what would it have achieved? It could, or would have brought about a documented incident in which C&RT, due solely to their own wilful neglect, couldn't get an urgently needed maintenance vessel to a repair job which at present is cutting off one of the 3 routes to the North from the canals in the Midlands. As things stand after yesterday, and with the craneboat at Meadow Lane within C&RT's published timeframe, they have a perfect 'get out of Jail free' card to play in response to any complaint about the lack of depth in the Trent above Nottingham. So, well done, . . for letting C&RT wriggle off the hook !

Has anybody considered the publicity generated from such a stunt? I can see it now - 'forum contributors post indignant comments - now running to five pages!'
It would be much better if a boat was sunk on the un-dredged channel where the skipper set himself on fire while shooting at the police helicopter. Now that would be newsworthy. Just think how embarrassed CaRT would be.

As I've said before, in C&RT the vast majority of pleasure boaters have got just exactly the sort of navigation authority they so thoroughly deserve.
I had hoped that the 'Malice in Wonderland' brigade, increasingly in evidence and ever more vociferous on TB, would not succeed in driving this forum in the direction of shoving it's collective nose quite as far or as firmly up C&RT's corporate backside as their counterparts elsewhere have done with the likes of CWDF !
Great shame, . . this place had the makings of somewhere refreshingly forthright and honest to air views and opinions, and to resolve differences in a useful and constructive manner.

I think it might be worth doing a spot of light own-death-faking by deliberately grounding the boat and then disappearing completely leaving a boat pole floating in the water and splash marks on the side of the vessel.

You’ve got lots of boats, you could sacrifice one for the cause.

Yes but I was thinking of someone else doing it. I'm keen to learn from other people's mistakes so if the own-death-faking fails for some reason I can note it down and take precautions to prevent a similar outcome.

You could do a kamikaze lock cilling, be the first inaugural member of Tony’s kamikaze boat squad? To be clear this is in reply to magnetman.

I think he is the ideal candidate for Tony’s kamikaze boat squad. He wouldnt even miss one boat.
