Just found this, my boy and I walking across it before it was restored. ETA, MM will know it, the motorway behind is the beginning of the infamous Twyford cutting.

Locally we have Shawford viaduct, which impresses me with 33 spans over 800m and built by the London and south Western railway to join to the ill fated Didcot to Southampton railway. "From Newbury station I set off west along Pound Street which quickly changes into Enborne Road. Before this goes under the Newbury by-pass (A34) there's this rise where it crosses the disused Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway.The line became strategically important during World War II when huge volumes of munitions and troops were transported to South Coast ports, particularly in the preparations for the Normandy landings. The line opened in 1882-85 and closed in stages 1960-64. The railway presented some massive engineering challenges as it negotiated the Berkshire and Hampshire Downs. I recall them running out of money and using a different gauge. There is still a long tunnel in Winchester and they built a viaduct in southampton as well but sadly there are no remains.

We had to do that for the MI6 training but without any safety line. It's child's play. You just have to concentrate and change your pants afterwards. FTFY 🤣

I like the viaduct near Gretton Northants..my mum had a painting done for me as a Christmas present..love it

Disused railway bridge above Radford lock ... not the best photo but the bridge runs at a 45 degree angle to the canal ... the brickwork is so precise and amazing to view from below. Rog

I always intended doing the trip when we lived at Caldecott but never did as work always in the way. I just love that bridge....
