Has anyone else encountered the latest frustrating action of the continuous mooring community? Besides the mooring blocking one encounters, faced with the prospect of having to run an engine for several hours to recharge batteries or heat up cauliflowers, with nowhere to go and all day to get there, many will travel to the waterpoint at 1/2 mph. I generally can manage no more than 2 1/2 - 3 mph on most canals, but following some of these, I find myself having to keep disengaging drive to keep behind these. A couple of weeks ago, one such individual managed to make the journey from Willoughby Wharf to Braunston junction last over 50 mins, mainly by stopping herself to chat to fellow moorers for a minute or two.

Why the "continuous mooring community" ... just flexing your own prejudice ?
It can be frustrating travelling behind a slower moving boat ... even if it's a shiney marina boat you may approve of ... but there's no harm in shouting a request for them to pull over and let you pass ... it's worked for me.

Despite the acknowledgement of my presence, no effort was made to give way, and on such a busy stretch, with many moored boats, forcing the issue was not really an option.

I met a lovely old couple last week - changed my mind when following them - especially when he made a drama of pulling out in front of me as I was untying. Realised the speed he was doing so set my throttle accordingly - they then slowed - and effectively stopped - to admire the view at one point. Very frustrating, annoying but ...they were having a good day x

Rog I'm not 'flexing my prejudice', but it is from this group that I've encountered it. I have politely asked, with some success, in the past, but it often does not work.

I'm afraid to say there has been an influx of large numbers of idiots over recent years who have no consideration for others and in a lot of cases appear to have no idea that other people actually exist.
It's the just the way it is.
Expect it to get worse before it gets better.
Do you not have a "ramming speed" option on your control panel?

How long had you observed them moored to support your statement, out of interest ? I assume for quite a while ... so why wait to move until they're in front of you. Rog

Someone who only bought a boat because the 1995 act wording is completely pointless.

I base my statement on their general demeanour, and the usual signs like wheelbarrows etc.

"Their general demeanour" ... now are you sure you're not just flexing your prejudice ?
People should be considerate of others, as I have agreed.
Whether you wish to travel purposefully or crawl along, it should not be too onerus a task to maintain awareness of other boats.
I dislike having a boat following closely behind me as much as I dislike getting stuck behind a crawler ... if we're all aware of others and cooperate there's room for all.
By the way ... only flower pots on our roof and I don't possess a wheelbarrow.

On the roads, I can tolerate a bit of frustration from a slow driver in front, but I absolutely cannot stand having an idiot driving three feet from my rear bumper, especially on fast A roads or motorways, and when I have no option to get out of their way anyway. Do some boaters naturally cruise closer to a boat in front? Not from a desire to overtake, but just as their own habit? Do people each have their own idea of what a normal following distance is? And is it like the roads- where some just ignore courtesy and get right on your rear end?

I don’t understand those that are racing around the canals. If you get behind a slow boat then so what? Our 3 days on this Ashby earlier this week were the slowest I can remember. Loads of boats, hirers new to it all. Lots of private boats, that probably haven’t exited their marina for a year or more. Not enough water. All this combined for much fun and frolics. We laughed most of our journey. A few private owners didn’t see the funny side though. I feel they are missing out.
