Wishing you a "good road ahead", as they used to say, @tonyc .....
Hope you managed to board your boat today.
Take care, keep safe - and enjoy!

Is this Tony's first day? I remember mine, I lit the stove, even though it was mid September, and boiling on the boat.

Well howdy folks, and thanks for your kind wishes Metanoia and everyone. I must set this thing up to email me when things happen- at the moment I have to log into find out what's afoot.
Fear not, after all of your kind advice the least I can do is to keep you folks up to speed as soon as I get aboard, and the reason I haven't yet is that there has been a week's delay in getting hold of my dosh, so my new move aboard date is looking like next weekend, or early in w/c 24th August (its nearly two carloads of gear so the full move will take a couple of days).
It's a bit frustrating, and more so because the NHS only told me of the delay on Friday- two weeks after I'd left them (although I am going back part time in Sept). And I'd already I packed pretty much everything into bags and boxes ready to go this weekend. But the NHS have got a lot on at the moment so it would be churlish (and pointless) to complain about a delay.
Thankfully the seller is not stressing about 7-10 days delay, so at least I don't have to worry about that. On the plus side, it does mean that my Simploo separating toilet will arrive whilst I still have an proper address in which to receive it, so that will save a hassle. And it gives me time to get hold of a hose (which I assumed would be included but the owner needs it for his new boat). I also need some nappy pins (which I was slightly disappointed to find out were not actually part of some strange collective canal fetish).
It's a wasted week really, and its a shame because I have to go back to working on 2nd Sept, and I could have done with more time to get the boat to Northampton without worrying about spending two or three days on my computer and phone, getting internet signal, etc.
So there it is- the big day has been postponed a bit, but maybe next weekend, maybe during the week after, the move is still on and, God willing, there should be no more snags.
PS- does anyone know whether the water points on the Great Ouse and the Nene use the same hose size as on the CRT canals?
PPS- does anyone know how you switch a boat on? (just kidding, sort of)

(at least not yet) I can fire up the diesel CH and watch it burn through a squillion pounds an hour, thanks to the coming changes in red diesel availability.

Hope you have many happy hours on board and that u don't encounter too many grumpy boaters... Thanks Patty, I do remember from my boating holidays there were a few boaters I passed that, although not grumpy as such, did not appear to be happy with their lives in general (at least to judge from the state of their faces), and some others who took the business of skippering very seriously indeed. I try not to take things too seriously to be honest, but in the world of boating it takes all sorts I guess- just as in civilian life!

I forgot lots and made silly mistakes but he always answered my panicked phone calls and talked me through every crises.... I guess I was super lucky

Where are the pics, come on now lad, don't forget the important stuff. Enjoy! Oh damn, I'll have to do that bloody IMGUR thing again to get my first pics on here- nooooo! When I posted the last lot, I actually had a dozen random people on IMGUR posting comments about my pics- I was there for an hour answering them! But rest assured Jim, the moment I am aboard and have my stuff squared away I shall put up some pics to give an idea of the boat and the location. I have to say the area is lovely, it truly is- but moorings are not as numerous as on the CRT canals, and you can only stay 48 hours usually, so my main focus will be to get to the GU asap, so I can park up and do some little fettling jobs on her. There will be many pics, especially of the obscure engine or electrical parts that I dont understand!

I guess I was super lucky To be fair to him Patty he did offer to take me for a spin and show me all the systems, but we have a problem. He's buying a brand new widebeam in Liverpool and sailing it down the Ely, and he'll be leaving during next week to launch it. He did say I can call him any time and he'll talk me through any queries. I think on the day we complete the purchase I'll have him for an hour or so on the phone, but I dont want to bother him too much as he will have his own set of hassles on his brand new boat, dealing with the passage from Liverpool to Ely via the Wash!

Enjoy the process ... the journey's always equally as much fun as the arrival Amazing metanoia remembering your due date ... how very empathetic. Rog

One of the wags in my office got me a captains hat as a leaving gift. It is of regrettably poor quality, but I think at a distance of ten yards or so, I'll look like a real captain when passing other boats. I think people will be impressed by my nautical demeanour, if not my cap. She also got me a plastic telescope- again, shocking quality, and no use rounding the Horn, but I'll look like a proper salty mariner scoping out the locks ahead as I cruise towards them on HMS Deadbeat.
