"Closing down a large part of the economy for several months will lead to mass unemployment an even more underfunded health service and any other public sector organisation for that matter. The quality of life will reduce, people will die due to untreated medical issues, mental health will worsen. The government is not a bottomless pit of cash, which some people who spout off that the government should do this, fund that etc. someone is paying for it and if there's no money, it won't happen. Simple as that."
"Problem is that figures such as GDP etc are still abstract to most people and those advocating extreme anti COVID measures will say its all a price worth paying. They will soon change their tune however when they are presented with their P45 (which of course in their view will never happen to them!) and they then have to start applying for scarce jobs in competition with thousands of other applicants."

"This lockdown and social distancing completely wrecked the festival season this summer. And the longer this drags on and on, the same thing could even happen for next years festivals. But of course, also the longer this social distancing drags on and on the more likely it will wreck many MANY businesses across various sectors, and the unemployment level will be absolutely sky high."

And now we see people on here opening their eyes to the real problems because now the penny has dropped that the economy (or lack of economy) will actually affect them personally.
Everyone was distracted by a false, high modelling of death numbers to a "not deadly" virus (never been isolated I might add), distracted by concerns to the NHS, distracted by "science" of R numbers and a PCR test that shouldn't have been used as a diagnostic (even acknowledged by the inventor of the test), and generally glued to social media which spread the fear into the minds to subserviently go into lockdown, some very happy to furlough. And just wait when the realisation dawns that there will be no jobs to go back to.
Every Government decision was designed to be vague and confusing. Decisions made late at night and without due process of discussion in London. It seems we have finally got to a wake up call situation at long last.
"Back on topic to the economy: Globalisation does not operate by thinking of the borders of Nations. That should surely be obvious when industries were sold off decades ago. Countries exist in name only. McDonalds cares not what language you speak or where you live. Think about it.
Economies are deliberately being destroyed. A new sustainability is desired, just search for Prince Charles and The Great Reset. Over the years we have all seen the decline of high street shops and I've certainly seen the death of USA shopping malls. The technology we all rely on is forcing us to buy online one way or another. This isn't implemented all at once but over a long period of time.
The obvious obstacle is cash. It is an enemy. Cashless buses and smart ticketing to contactless paying is now deemed normal. When cash is extinct we will all be slaves to the new credit system.
Critical thinking is required now more than ever. Question everything. I refused the Poll Tax and passionately acted on getting that U turned. Where the hell has everybody's spirit and fight gone these days?"

Well TBH a recession was expected ... You cannot shut down the Economy and expect all to be hunky dory Those who diversified and rose to the challenge I think are still afloat Those who caved in and hid may struggle

Foxey likes to bang on about the obvious to peturbate and foment trouble His posts are so long with cut n paste content that I just switch off... If I wanted to read the Daily Fail I'd buy it... I occasionally skim read small sections but in the main there is too much doom n gloom content for me. I like to read peoples own thoughts and opinions accompanied by relevant links...

I have said before, that I believe genuine refugees from war/persecution should be looked after, but only as a temporary measure. After the war is over, they can go home. Lily Allen and George Clooney can stick them in their 300 spare bedrooms.

Covid simply speeded up the inevitable breakdown of a system that relied on borrowing, the level of borrowing increasing, in perpetuity. It's obvious that this was unstainable but folk, and the powers that be, have turned a blind eye to it. Governments are happy as long as folk vote for them. Folk are happy as long as they can accumulate vast amounts of needless junk, participate in various overpriced leisure activities, collect their child tax credits from the government and get off their heads once in a while. That's it.
How we deal with this personally is down to choice. We could continue as usual, under the illusion/ delusion that once again we will be able to earn thousands of pounds a month to service our debts and still be able to spend what is a month's salary in the majority of the world going out for meals in overpriced restaurants where the waiters call you 'sir'. Or, we could recognise that things have changed now, they will never be like they used to be. We could reign in our debts, moderate our lifestyles and put in place a plan for survival.
The choice is ours and ours alone, no government will be able to take steps to get things back how they used to be, in the longer term.
I've made my choice, have you made yours?
