The saving grace ... if there is one ... is that this isn't a recession in the sense we've experienced in the past.
This is a re-boot after an economic shut-down ... and the world is involved, not just the UK or europe.
The Bank of England have upgraded their predictions for recovery already .
This doesn't mean all is well, that job's won't be lost or that companies will fold ... but it MAY suggest the recovery will be quicker than in, for example, the 1970's.

Unlikely - those who want illegal immigrants and piss-taking economic migrants can look after them. Lily Allen and George Clooney can stick them in their 300 spare bedrooms. We arent talking about immigrants here tho, we are talking about the folks who will be loosing their jobs in October that you mention. not 'bollocks' for those who have no job by October; Debenhams filed for bankruptcy, eh?) losing. one point to me

Anyway, it is disgusting that in a modern industrialised and rich country such as the UK, there is homelessness. There should be a good basic standard of living for all who are willing to make an effort. There are many who aren't interested, or are too lazy or feckless, in working and putting something into society, so, as far as I am concerned, they can sort themselves out. But there are many who are in difficult circumstances due to little fault of their own, and I fully support helping these people out. And... we come to the illegal immigrants issue... has been pointed out many times that if the UK wasn't providing weapons to eg. the Saudis, there wouldn't be all that mess in the Middle East to start with. How many refugees of their Muslim 'brothers' have Saudi Arabia taken in? Oh, yes, I remember. Zero.
And why aren't the 'Forever Family' anti-slavery protesters round at the Saudi Embassy? By the way, where have they vanished to? And what happened to the Extinction Rebellion twazzocks? Greta Thunberg is also laying low in hiding. Their 15 minutes of limelight has come and gone.

"One of England's last coal mines is set to close today after almost 200 years in operation. The Bradley open-cast mine in Durham, which produced 150,000 tonnes of coal each year, is set to extract its last coal today and close its doors permanently." "The demand for coal is now mainly satisfied by imports coming in from Russia and the US." "Britain's last deep coal mine, the Kellingley colliery in North Yorkshire, closed in 2015. Now in England, only small underground mines in Cumbria and the Forest of Dean still produce small amounts of coal." www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8635235/One-Englands-mines-shuts-doors-coalmining-nearing-end-turn-cleaner-power.html" Alan Mayman, who has been a miner for over 25 years, says he faces an uncertain future. 'I'm devastated, absolutely devastated that it's coming to a close,' he told Sky News. 'The county council and the government have done nothing to support us, so this'll be the last coal mine that I'll probably ever work on. Then that's it.' " "Imports? When we have our own and the workforce to mine it? How ridiculous." "We are sitting on 300 years of coal at the consumption rate BEFORE we closed the pits. And now we import the stuff. It makes no rational sense, no economic sense. Bad for our balance of payments, bad for British jobs and bad environmentally because it we are going to use coal the import cost alone will ADD to emissions."

Rog Despite what is beginning to look like the worst government, and PM that I have ever lived under, our economy may well fix itself. Obviously bad news sells, thatβs why you only hear about the companies that are struggling. Many of these were in trouble prior to covid. Thankfully I no longer work. My 2 kids plus partners do, and are doing ok. Daughters at Next, very busy, sales heading in the right direction. Son works for a small business, selling cash counting machines. They can hardly keep up with demand. This I find odd, as we are constantly told cash is a dead duck. Daughters partner maintains a pet food manufacturers facility., again, very busy. Whilst I am aware that some will fall on hard times because of covid(Brexit?) I donβt buy into those that are predicting mass changes in society.
