Yesterday at Hoo Mill lock we met a boat called Ampere (electric boat built at Braunston). As it vacated the lock, making a whirring noise I suddenly realised how much I like the sound of diesel engines in boats (not stationary at 9pm however). It was like something fundamental is missing ... I love the sound of modern buzz boxes, old Listers, Nationals, RN's, Gardners and all the varieties in between. The sounds are as much a part of my love of canals as the movement and freedom. The sound of a lock being turned in a morning is like a siren call drawing me on. Just saying. Rog When we moored at Norbury,Ampere moored behind us for a while. It was the only time the moorings had problems with the lecky bollards-they kept tripping out... And there in lies the problem with plug in electric powered vehicles - boats, cars, vans, trucks, bicycles; they all need filling up from the national grid. James May once said:- batteries are rubbish; they are either flat or going flat! Hybrid and solar goes someway to soften the demand on the grid, it can't square the circle completely though.

Still, it could be better that just one power plant for an area produces electricity, then you can concentrate on the efficiency of that power plant rather than on 100,000 cars with their exhaust pipes and catalytic converters and Lamba monitors (all manufactured in the Communist Torture Camp of China). I wonder of the owner of 'Ampere' has said sorry to everyone he's (allegedly) inconvenienced?

Had the generator running from 9.30 till about 10.30 last night ...... was doing some baking yesterday evening and realised that after several days of almost no solar the batteries were getting low so started the genrator which both ran the oven, boiled a kettle for a cuppa and put a bit back in the batteries ........ annoying the neighbours ? good !!! the bloody geese wake me up often enough Sod 'em I say !!!
(mooring has an industrial site on one side and fields on the other ..... nearest dwelling about 1/2 mile away, no other liveaboards

Here's an idea:- Build loads of coal fueled power stations in every town producing electricity and town gas - hell; you could even deliver the coal by barge and use the waste tar products to smear all over the hulls of said carrying vessels. Just don't think about the localised pollution such a brilliant idea would cause.....

I was agreeing with you - it's so false, this "my car's so green, it runs on electricity". BUT, it could be better that 100,000 cars are running on electricity produced from one 'CLEAN' and properly supervised power plant, than having 100,000 non-efficient filthy petrol and diesel engines running around town. If only other boaters were like us and had an engine that uses just 0.5 litre diesel per hour...

I have never claimed to be 'greener than green' and don't go round lecturing people, like Lewis Hamilton does whilst driving his speedboat. Our last oil change was October 2019. By the way, where did Little Saint Greta vanish to? Another hypocrite who needs a kick up her nether regions.

I haven't had a platoon of kids, I'm therefore absolved of any responsibility for being green.

I stumbled upon your duplicate post on CWDF Clinton Cool ... all polite and obsequious ... yet on here it's 'knobheads'. Demanding consideration from others whilst demonstrating a lack of any consideration yourself. Was that deliberate ... or is your concern purely that you receive consideration ? Rog

Genny is now singing its heart out for battery charging and a couple of episodes of Idiot abroad, we are on the move tomorrow. For various different reasons the 'Onda is in the garage meaning the nasty old Clarke 1000g is on a bit of electrical string as far downwind as it can possibly be. Will shut the infernal thing off in about 45 mins 👍
