Nine weeks of lock-down at Nantwich ...a unique and enforced experience, made me reconsider having solar of some kind. why you might now be considering solar, Rog - but unlike many you did have the option of going home instead of choosing to stay in the top two of your favourite towns whilst most of us were truly locked down without options... Happy cogitating while you're at home and plugged in eta - just KNOW where quaysider is likely to go with this ..!! I wasn't complaining, and fully appreciate every day how fortunate we are ... but I'm not apologising either. I was just explaining what had prompted my re-evaluation of solar. Having chosen not to sell or rent out the house, we always have the option of 'going home' but after 15 years spending nine months onboard, we consider the boat IS our home ... hence we were locked down at Nantwich for nine weeks. It's been a strange year for everyone, and one I hope isn't repeated. Rog

[/div]
Nice. Do pictures when you get this done. I love seeing hiabs on boats.
[/div]
will do Andrew ...... it's this little one that is on the bow of "Alpha" at the moment. It's due for being changed for a much bigger one and I have first dibs on the original (and the engine driven pump/tank bits)
looks good John, with its own donkey engine?

looks good John, with its own donkey engine?
No it's a pulley driven one off the main engine (and the Daewoo has two belt sections unused on the crankshaft pulley)

Apologies, @magnetman - I just realised/remembered that no-one really gives a sh*t - unless it's to take the p Hope you're feeling better today Still unsure. I can cook a loaf of bread and grow food, and I can also ride a horse. Strange but true and no p taking from me here No I'm feeling worse today actually because life is only bearable on codeine tablets and I hate medication... What not look at pain meds as a short term fix and get that MRI..only when u know root cause can u see if there is a long term fix... Continuous pain is very draining and depressing, but some things won't just go away on their own.

Shopping usually every 2 days for me. My gas fridge is tiny, doesn't hold much stuff. I like to consume a bottle of red. If I bought 2 bottles I'd most likely drink them on consecutive evenings. Going shopping every 2 days, and just buying 1, enables me to moderate my probable alcoholism to a level where it's not healthy but, it's not overly dangerous either. Plus I've been on a fitness drive for a couple of years now, it seem counter intuitive to do daily exercise along with daily red wine partial oblivion. I'm pleased to see that Dogless has seen the light regarding solar panels. He won't regret having some fitted, I've yet to speak to anyone who has. Ive started buying the individual sized bottles vino(admittedly by the case!)... I now try to limit myself to alternate nights or a few days off a week. I was drinking too much and I know this seems expensive option but its not really because I have disciplined myself to only have one per evening I drink If I opened a normal sized bottle then its gone.

Good morning - I'm just checking in case anyone was worried we'd sunk. Have a guest still on board (coming to the end of her 2nd week to celibate her 70th) and we've done al sorts with her... including taking her kayaking down the Monty!
That is not a euphemism.
I've a 'Birthday' "Eggs Ellis" to present shortly complete with Champagne... well why not?

We've had to moor in a line of boats tonight (don't like it) as we were visiting friends on their offside mooring, and needed to be nearby for access to walk round.
Just been for an evening stroll, and I'm paying particular attention to solar set ups as I'm considering getting some.
One boat, with an array of six panels had a Honda 2.0 genny running to charge his e bike in the bow.
Another boat with two huge panels ramped up facing the sun had his engine running.
Perhaps solar, whilst helpful as an additional charging method, may not be the panacea of all things electric, and I should curtail my expectations accordingly.

Rog Rog, I have 4 panels ...... an electric fridge freezer, a washing machine, a tumble dryer, a dishwasher, electric kettle etc etc ...... at the moment my batteries are at 92%.
Since early spring I have used shore power for about 8 hours after a long sunshine free few days a week or so ago and I ran a generator for a couple of hours or so while doing a lot of welding,
The biggest problem is people having great solar panel capacity and then not paying full attention to the rest of the system.
You need a good quality MPPT controller to get maximum value out of the panels and sufficient batteries in good condition to store the power you are generating ..... otherwise it is a waste of time That is why LiFePO4 batteries are so good as they will suck up the charge as fast as you can supply it right up until they are full
My system is a long way from optimum, considering my power requirements but after the amount of sunshine we have just had, no one with solar should be needing to run engines/generators etc

Rog The usual cause of having to run an engine if you’ve got solar is knackered batteries. Well after a day like this is it.

Been busy at the drydock plus bits and bobs of my own jobs, When I'm at the drydock I am normally away at silly o clock to get a parking spot and by the time I'm back in the evening and had something to eat and drink I'm ready for my bed, so time on line is very limited (sober that is)
I try and check the forum every day but often don't have enough time to post much
