Got to the boat this afternoon, loaded up and set off from Nantwich heading south to Audlem, oil light was flickering, unusual I thought as I had checked oil last time we cruised, pulled over and let engine cool for 10i minutes, dipped tank and shit myself, level a good two inch above max line and colour milky grey.. checked water and no sign of losing any so god knows where the water has come from.
Have now pulled 6L of this shit out the dipstick Hole and put some oil back in, ran engine and no sign of anything bad, oil still looks grey but not rising on the dipstick.. will see what happens in the morning..
Safe to say head gasket or maybe water pump?

Sounds like head gasket.

Your assumption is probably correct however the hard part is deciding which it is. Probably easier to whip the head off and have a look, best get a new gasket because the old one will need replacing A. Because removing the head will bugger it and if it's B. Knackered a new one will be required. Phil Oh and change the oil ASAP

I agree. Froggy should remove the engine, sit it on the stern deck for three weeks and see what happens.

Just curious really what the issue is, although head gasket is likely the issue..
I’ll be doing no work, my engine skills are limited so will try and limp back to the mooring tomorrow, it’s only 30 mins away, then will speak to Nantwich marina and see when I can get it looked at.

Sorry for your trouble ... hope it's thoroughly fixed ... inexpensively. Rog Ideally he needs to find someone who can steal a boat and then do an engine swap.

This might be a useless post but you never know. Friend has a boat with a Gardner engine. I nearly bought it myself 2 years ago but he beat me to it. He suffered from a rising oil level in his engine, he said it was due to a problem with the fuel pump, diesel was somehow getting into the sump. I know you said your oil is grey, likely because of water, but just thought I'd add it to the mix.
