White vinegar will remove the smell from your urine receptacle. Much better to use that rather than the shower or sink, like most boaters. Apparently white vinegar watered down removes smell of pee from carpets.... not sure what it does to the carpets though It also takes away smoke smells from walls and floors. Splash it on all over. Things will have a strong vinegar smell for a while but it rapidly wears off.

White vinegar is the only thing which has been added to the toilet on the barge which is a family residential vessel in 6 years other than things which have been eaten or drunk.
It works well for odour control and also clears limescale deposits effectively.
I just wish it worked for bad back muscle strain. I'd drink it all day today if it did...
This back problem I have today is liable to make my daily beer acquisition protocol solution unfeasible which would be very rude and a first.

I visit elsans to empty sewage waste ... they are often okay but occasionally dreadful. They are always cleaner after I have visited ... and if all users took the same responsibility the 'dreadful' occasions would be none existent. The one at Banbury I took bleach and a scrubbing brush to on my last visit (last year) it took me the time it took to fill with water. I have no problem with elsans ... just wish C&RT would stop removing them. Rog PS By the way ... vandals may do damage ... leaving shit everywhere is a very small minority of boaters. I love the smell of faeces in the morning...smells like...well shit actually. ETA I've thought of another use for a drysuit.

As I said, elsans are generally okay ... occasionally not.
But I prefer the idea of visiting an elsan (where one should expect people to dispose of waste) than bins where people have stored up three or four weeks supply of shit before depositing it.
But 'a chacun sont gout'

goût
Always remember the circumflex. Usually indicates a long lost letter s.
Gout is a totally different thing.

But 'a chacun sont gout' Rog I think its wonderful you have such a pro-active approach to dealing with other people's shit. Well done you. Also, I'm very positive about the continued popularity of elsans. There's only a limited number of bins after all.

And in the cut a fairly limited amount of water due to the lack of dredging.
I agree. It is good to have shit-guardians about keeping an eye on the cleanliness.

If you were to leave it with someone else's rubbish on bin day would you put it in the green, black or brown bin?

Worth considering bagging and strategically hanging from a tree. It's coming up to Christmas so maybe some cheap automatic LEDs included in the bag could help with the decorative effect.
They do autobagging bogs but they are unreasonably expensive and require one to purchase consumables other than food and drink products.

All this bagging stuff: I see they are doubling the price of plastic bags. Save the world and all that. I'm wondering what kind of bags folk use to put shit in? And bearing in mind that it should be 'double bagged', does that make things expensive, or is there a concession on special bags for poo?

Local beer shops usually give out small plastic bags for free I find.
Sometimes they attempt to charge for the bag but I counter with the "I say do you have 200 employees?" That usually throws them a bit.
Dog shit does not require double bagging so why would man shit?
Modern humans are completely ridiculous creatures. Why make such a big song and dance about basic disposal of waste?
It's just shit at the end of the day but the drive to generate profit means it is treated as some sort of radioactive waste product.
