All of these things look like something from the imagination of Terry NationΒ Nice and quiet though

My experience with electric outboards aren't good. Loch Ken in Scotland, 14 foot dory with cuddy. OK the Yamaha electric outboard was somewhat underpowered for such a boat but we didn't intend to go far. All went well until we encountered the first bit of weed. While a 'normal' outboard would have cut through the stuff the electric jobby just wasn't up to it. Within a minute of lifting it to clear the weed and putting it back down again it had stopped again. Result? drifted into some reeds on the far side of the loch and sat there for an hour in increasing winds until a boat with a proper outboard rescued us.

Yes the old trolling motors are very underpowered but the three I mentioned are completely different items. Much more like a small petrol outboard than the old TM type.
My new Aquamot has exactly the same performance as my Honda 2 petrol outboard on the dink which is a small one 6ft6. On a larger boat I think it will be equivalent to about 3 or 3?5hp because of the high level of thrust.
Obviously flat out the battery doesn't last very long but there is no particular need to go flat out unless it is unusually windy or you are fighting a bit of current.
I've been running Minn Kota and Yamaha (badged Minn Kota units) trolling motors for years and while they are useful they are mainly intended as secondary motors for slow movement while fishing.
The new type of motors are a completely different kettle of fish.

I have looked at the pictures and... nah they don't do anything for me.... I am sure its a case of beauty in the eye of the beholder..... I think what we have here is the same reason that gurlys played with dollys and boys wanted Mecchano. Its a funny thing but if you put a three year old boy in a room full of toys, the statistical likelihood is that he'll go for the thing with wheels.

Female Seagull aficionados are quite rare.

Seagulls done! From this - To this - Both running and pumping water a treat. Room for one more on here- It would appear Seagullitis has well and truly been caught!

I'm impressed you got the Villiers Mk1 ignition to run but don't use it too far away from land...that coil is old and unreliable as is the condenser. Bring a paddle. You can replace those things but it will costya. Are you missing anything? I have a collection of spares...

I would wish you a swift recovery but I have seen others with that dread plague ........ there is no return from that kind of madness I'll be sure to pass the message on - he has quite a bad case by all accounts - my mate has snaffled an original toolkit and parts book to go with them π΅ he promises me the stand was made wide enough to fit three by accident; I'm not buying that at all! I'm safeish at the moment, he's 90 odd miles away and I shouldn't think farting about with ancient outboards and drinking beer constitutes essential travel!

My mates shed is an awesome thing, more than a couple of daft bits of kit have been created on there. The Villiers one took a few pulls to burst into life, the Wipac equipped featherweight genuinely went first pull. I think he's up together with them now but the s actively on the hunt for another, I'll let you know if he needs anything π»ππ¨π
