I had to look it up as I have heard the expression bit never knew what it was. Apparently around midday. That's ok.

Sun over the yard arm ? ...... I'll drink to that !!! What is a yard arm? I always thought it was an archaic term for a boom but it seems its more like a gaff. Just don't splice the mainbrace at the same time.

I thought it was one of the horizontal sticks on a square rigger.
"The yardarms on a sailing ship are the horizontal timbers or spars mounted on the masts, from which the square sails are hung. (The word yard here is from an old Germanic word for a pointed stick, the source also of our unit of measurement.)"
