Yes. Scratch and poke a bit with the engine block to get through the surface corrosion. It reads 1.4 mv Iβm just slightly concerned that you might be getting a false low reading due to the probes not properly connecting to the stud and/or the case due to surface corrosion. If possible, get some light abrasive to get through to bright metal to stick the meter probes on

And take the caps off the ends of the probes like what peterboat does.

And take the caps off the ends of the probes like what peterboat does. peterboat likes batteries. peterboat is saving his battery in the meter.

Any update ianali ... hope you're sorted Rog Man has taken alternator to be repaired. Thinks it is probably a regulator issue. Fingers crossed he said be back later or tomorrow. For now we have a lovely mooring. Solar aplenty and can run engine if we need hot water. So really I canβt complain.

I was impressed with Telemachus 's talking you through a check list ... but don't tell him he's big headed enough Last time we had a similar issue the alternator came back reconditioned for Β£50 (Oxley Marine at Autherley) . Hope it works out well for you ... and sorry ... forgot to wish you happy anniversary for yesterday (we had no signal at all at the top of the Stockton flight). Rog

Thanks for best wishes, we had a splendid day. Oddly, today is also lovely. Suns out, breezy but warm. Cake and beer.

For now we have a lovely mooring. Solar aplenty and can run engine if we need hot water. So really I canβt complain. Jolly good. I would just sound a note of caution in that these people have a bit of a habit of picking on the big expensive lump and saying βyou need a new oneβ without fully diagnosing the issue. It is quite probably an alternator fault, but as a precaution I would check that without the alternator fitted and with the small wire dangling loose, when you turn on the ignition, the warning light does not illuminate. If it does illuminate there is a short in the wiring which could damage the new alternator when installed.

Best way, have a cold beer and let someone else do the work. Nemesis will come up with a snide remark about paying for convenience. Anytime soon.....

Fixed yet ? At least you've still got the sunshine. Rog Sunshine is gorgeous. Still moored in Stratford, original fix didnβt work. Itβs gone away again to be looked at, but chap wonβt be back with it until Monday. He is also bringing a used replacement, in case original is really broken beyond repair. Not a problem really, jumped batteries to starter so charging is fine. Solar also doing well. Son and gf with us, so we are partying before the lockdown gets us. At least this time we will be in the boat π
