"Our GP is closed. Our hospital is empty. The government are laughing at us. A pandemic with empty hospitals."
"Some seriously thick comments on here, from the core Daily Mail readership. I have a suggestion to these people, they should go out and catch the virus, then they can infect their families, then they will know if it just like the flu, go on, it's easy, you can find out if you only get long Covid or just die."
"No one around here to catch it from !!!"
"No smear tests, no mammograms, heaven knows what might be getting missed."
"Nurses and hospital staff have never had it so good! Doing absolutely nowt!"
"Visited hospital in Exeter last week because of an accident my son had, all quiet both days..."
"Flights still arriving!"
"Dinghies still arriving!!"

GP surgeries have not provided adequate support in these times..they have hidden away and left the front line staff to bear the brunt of the pandemic I have heard some very worrying accounts of elderly people unable to see their GP..expected to send photos when they don't own smart phones..tad impossible to facilitate this 'order' with house phone Its a crazy time which some who have responsibilities to care have let their clients down. Will we ever return to normal?..what will be normal?....as with all disasters its the elderly, vulnerable who suffer. Sending 86 year olds to hospital for INR tests that used to be just a needlestick finger test is unbelievable...GP surgeries who pass on their responsibilities should have their funding redirected to those who are working.

Indeed. My Mum is 83 and pretty sick. She's been unable to keep anything down (or in) and has lost a stone in the past month. The NHS were able to arrange a scope for her but the results will take 6 weeks. Potentially Chrons (spelling?) disease. In the meantime, she is up to the toilet at all hours, tired, scared and confused. She can't see a doctor at the local surgery. I don't know what's happened to them, guess they are 'furloughed' or something. She has had telephone appointments with 'locums', all of which she struggles to understand. If she does manage to get the gist of the meaning of their broken English they are no help whatsoever. All she wants is advice as to how she might adjust her diet while she's waiting for the results. She's had to resort to Dr Google. OK 40 odd thousand might have died with the virus. Many of these may have died by now anyway. In the meantime many more thousands are suffering with life threatening conditions (other than Covid) and are basically, not to put too fine a point on it, being left to die.

Bus mechanic at work says diesel doesn't really get old, still good after years and years. I asked because we last filled up in July '19 and topped up Oct '19. Almost a whole year without driving the boat, apart from a lap round the marina and a trip to the dry dock just round the corner. Engine should be getting a run today, to throw some oil round the bearings, and give the coolant thermostat a flexing.

I agree, the more I hear the more angry I get that vital services are just not there anymore Why can't GP's work properly?..their job is to care for the sick, provide support for the elderly ..and they have failed Dr's have a duty of care and I really don't think they are fulfilling that. People like your mum need dieticians advice, they need medication to control the flare ups of Chrons which is a debilitating condition. My neighbour is on anti cancer drugs that should have been reviewed in March..March came lockdown...her consultant phoned her at home instead of seeing her due to Covid and ask if the GP had done the bloods necessary...of course not. So she's on meds that long term can cause cancer and not had the proper blood screening since before March. I dunno why results take 6 weeks...

It's all a plan by the Chinese to get countries into disarray and drive businesses into bankruptcy so they can then snap them up dirt cheap. Like Norwegian Air Shuttle.
Populations of countries dying by the thousands at the hands of their own governments save the Chinese money on bullets. War by financial strangulation. You think the UK politicians don't owe China a debt of gratitude for all the loans? Just where do you think Rishi has been getting all the cash from? He'll be gone soon, to nurse his Bahamas bank account.

Maybe it's too dangerous for g.p.'s to work, they might catch Covid. Similar to how the fire brigade watched people die in Grenfell rather than try to rescue them, because it was too dangerous, or the emergency services held back in Manchester, it was too dangerous, there might have been another bomb. Still, let's all go out and clap for our the heroes that are our public service workers.

Oh good, I could do with a clap. Or maybe even the clap if she was good-looking.

I did think at the time that wishing a STD on the NHS staff was a bit rude "clap for carers".
I never clapped nor did any of my family members (woman and kids) as it was a bit too much like dumbing down. I can't deal with dumbing down .
Yes doctors and nurses and other NHS workers do a good job and we appreciate it but at the end of the day nobody is holding a gun to their head and forcing them to do the job.

Although it has the potential to communicate gratitude and respect, I can't help but feel that a lot of NHS staff would have preferred some extra cash instead. Clapping is nice but it doesn't pay the rent. I bet they didn't even get free parking at work.

Many/most people do a good job. NHS staff are not in any greater danger from covid than many other workers. Countries gone mad. So much over the top hype about stuff going on. It’s driving me around the bend.

Please don't group GP's and nurses together.
GP's have put their personal safety before that of their patients ... when they took the job did they not realise it involved contact with sick people ?
I also noticed the church has not covered itself in glory ... closed and locked ... I thought GP's and the church were supposed to be our refuge and support in troubled times ?
My sister (nurse) her husband (ambulance service) have continued working throught ... both have had covid 19 (and now have the anti-bodies ... my sis is blood doning).
Thankfully not all the NHS have chosen to hide away ... and lets not forget all the retail workers, drivers, parcel people etc. etc. their keeping going has allowed the vulnerable to be protected ... surely GP's should have been doing the same ?

Rog Just in a bit of defense of the Church (most unlike me.......), they were just responding to the Gov instructions by closing. Ministers etc. carried on with most of their role of visiting elderly/sick even if only online, carrying out funerals etc. I know my Mum's church has reopened (for now), although I think the regulations/guidance still says no singing.

Yes @blacksheep I accept that ... it was the physical church I was referring to ... throughout history they have been a place of peace and refuge (believer or not) and I guess for the first time ever the doors were locked.
