Surely by definition if he was a black man they would have searched him and found the weapon at an earlier point in the proceedings. Until recently, yes. But now we have 'black lives matter'.

I predict that the chap's ethnicity will be revealed around 5.00 p.m. today. The police will then feel that they have showed due sympathy towards the community in which the perpetrator was a member.

It seems this incident was probably not a stop and search because the person was not searched. It could have just been a drunk and disorderly and the rozzers had no clue that he might be carrying a gun.
Interesting about the attempted suicide angle. Do gun toting Jamaican drug dealers go in for suicide? I doubt it.
He might have been out minding his own business intending to pop a cap in his own face, got picked up by the cops got annoyed shot one of them then tried to kill himself but failed.

I counter Ricco‘s bet that he was black, with my bet that he was a brown asylum seeker with mental health issues.

I think you are being a little over-imaginative. We have heard thousands of times “Police confirm a male aged 25 (or whatever) was taken into custody ...” . They long since stopped referring to the ethnicity or skin colour of a person. After all, why is it relevant? Interestingly my iPad didn’t seem to mind “custardy” which reminds me of what Rastus said when he was caught with his nob in his bowl of pudding, looking somewhat irate ... ... All together now ... (they don’t make em like they used to. Fortunately!). It was routine for the murder of George Floyd to be described as being carried out by a white police officer. Quite a lot was made of this. So yes, ethnicity clearly matters. Yes but look what it’s lead to.

I reckon he is a pissed off English gentleman with a long established aristocratic background, who "got it wrong" somewhere along the line..
Being in Croydon doesn't fully add up but you never know.

That's a brave shout, I don't think I've ever heard of a brown person being involved in gun crime. Mind you, 10 shillings isn't a huge amount at today's prices, and someone has to win the lottery. You do know that this relates to a murder by shooting don't you, rather than a fraud?

Being detained for possession of ammunition should have been the clue here.

So while the BBC aren't prepared to reveal the ethnicity of the perpetrator one of the first things they chose to do was put a quote from a local 'person of the cloth' at the end of their story. She said she wasn't surprised at all by this, given local tensions between communities and the police over stop and search. So, before the dust has even settled the BBC chooses to include content that goes some way towards justifying the crime. To be fair to them they appear to have reflected, realised that this wasn't at all sensible and have now removed the quote from their news story.

It could have been a white virtue signaller who was taking offence at the stop and search problem on behalf of others.

Anyway, your post is highly non-woke. Some girls don’t work in mills. Some men who work in mills, gossip. Some people don’t like tea. Non-female non-gossiping non-tea drinking non-mill working people’s lives matter!

So yes, ethnicity clearly matters. Good point. And then you have gang rapists described as 'Swedish men' when they are really Somali 'refugees' who have merely been granted residence permits in Sweden. Or perhaps born in Sweden and have Swedish Passports. And then you have the gentlemen who have made their money abroad and claim to love the peoples of those countries... and now live on a quiet leafy street back in England, enjoying their pension, with their white-only English neighbours where there are no 'unsavoury' foreigners because, nudge nudge, wink wink... "they can't afford to live here!" They are quick to claim others are racist though, in their fiery show of virtual signalling. I call these people hypocrites.
