faffer I know you like a project. Looks ok for five grand. I understand the price now. You know what to do about looking at the hull. While stored ashore has the boat been watertight? Not a clue, one of the front wheel house windows is out but was boarded up. thats it. the hull lokms well fromt he otuside so i get the reason for the question there. i will get a survey done. The price is atleast five grand, my mate spoke to the pwner and she wants more. put no a price given.

if she expects a lot more she is going to be sorely disapointed. Didn't see any engine room pics .... are there any ? and what and what condition also no pics of stern gear, shafts P brackets etc. If it's just the hull then Β£5K sounds rich to me

Take a chipping hammer with you π
Wheelhouse roof looks a bit frilly.
Check the stern gear well. Plenty of money can be swallowed up there if the shafts are well worn at the cutlass bearings
Ditto corrosion I the rudder stocks - itβs very hard to check but the corrosion will be worse up in the rudder stock tube on the waterline
Other areas of concern are seacocks - again a fair bit of dollar can disappear if youβve got several to replace.
Everything else is meat and potatoes for you πππ»

I just cant help it, i look at a boat like the De Groot and think what else is about. This would good for mooring down Conwy. Found this and this i could do thigs with this aswell, front large berth with heads, then build a large rear cabin. Like bow on this. www.findafishingboat.com/af-30/ad-113413

Id say at that price point a survey is an expensive luxury - you know what your looking at; it wonβt need ultrasounding, it needs going at with the chipping hammer! You know itβs a full refit, Theres naff all a surveyor can tell you that you canβt discover for yourself if you have free reign to look over the boat while itβs on the hard π

I be taking my chipping hammer. Infatc use ddit today for first time in ages on welding the van up lol.

I wouldn't get a survey at that price but I would have a good look round inside the boat for damp internal areas, maybe take a bradawl and poke around a bit. Or a snap-on gasket scraper.

A 3/4 through hull is about a tenner πππ»

I'd be surprised if it was thicker than that.
Proper insurance usually wants 4mm minimum but at the end of the day a boat is going to float ... Life is too short ?
3rd party insurance self declaration of condition.
(Pathological hatred of insurance)

Ok sod the ultrasound. ill do the research and chipping about. Always more than one way of skinning the cat π donβt be hung up on 5mm plus plate thickness - looked after 1/8 (3.2mm) and 3/16 (4.8mm) will last for donkeys years. Salt water cruising steel hulled yachts use this spec as heavy plating can be a bigger negative (high COG giving a tender boat) along with reduced loading capacity, heavier plating - less fuel/water tins of grub that can be safely loaded. Thick plating on inland craft is a relatively new phenomenon - true, it cuts down on ballast and gives a bit more headroom, it vastly inflates build costs and timescales though. All that said your looking at a fine twin engined coastal cruiser not a floating skip that pensioners cashing in their lump sum want to outlast them!
