Our boat is 13 years old. Same as our kitchen in our house. We have recently suffered a run of breakdowns. Alternator, dishwasher, tv signal booster, tumble dryer. All unlucky 13? Tv signal boosters? Do they actually do anything? Tv on boat seems too pick up a signal without the booster just fine.

Suppose depends where u live and whether u have a sattey dish. There's still an old aerial in my roof that looks very archaic but it can stop there with the other rubbish my predecessors left

Just a case of thingd wearing out, as for the TV signal booster well now that analogue has been binned the digital signal has been boosted by 3X and I found we could still get a good signal with the aerial just laying on the roof, Chris confirmed this as she watched a programme while I navigated a winding course across the Fen. It came with the boat, it came that way so has always been used. It’s working fine without it so far. Just not sure whether it will be ok in the other areas. Time will tell.

We watch very little tv on the boat, just the occasional programme (live rugby, Only Connect, Gogglebox ... can you guess who chooses what?)
We use a Necvox aerial direct to the tv ... it has a magnetic base so clings to the roof or cabin sides, whichever gives the best unbroken signal.
Never had an issue of picking up a signal, and so much simpler than the huge aerials you see, being only about 6" tall.
The digital signal does seem much stronger than the old analogue system.
Share-boats in the past had huge aerials, powered signal boosters and all manner of gizmos yet rarely did they seem to work.

We used to see the same on cars with the electronics failing at the 10 year ish point, in the end we used to have them repaired as they were so expensive new

Statistically anything related to the number 13 is as likely to be unlucky as it is to be lucky.
It actually makes no difference.

We will be at home for the first time in 15 years. No panto. No visiting anyone on boxing day. Might not even get my Xmas day pint. Be nice though to spend it as a family in our new home. That will make it special.

When I moved over the hill from Horror House my daughter said it was all about making new memories for Christmas... That said I hated the first here and chose to travel the second(last year).. This year..well who knows. I have Freya, we may just picnic somewhere local and then TV, vino and a nice box chocolates...going to try not to get dragged into the mayhem that so marred the first year here. There is a possibility grandson will be with me..their plan for him to go Poland again may not happen due to Covid ..he's been told that Father Christmas will be delivering to him there.....(I have no words)
