I bought a second hand Navtex receiver recently. It was wired to a 230v/12v adapter.
I want to use it on 12v.
The cables were attached to the power supply with normal red plastic covered crimp terminals which I thought I could just pull apart if I yanked it hard enough . Nope. I had to cut the wires.
They were stuck fast. Looking at the crimp itself it seemed to be just one small hole punch, like a needle or the head of a nail.
I've only ever come across ordinary crimping tools before.
Does anyone know what this was? I want one of these tools.
I've got a hammer operated tool for larger sizes I wonder if this was a small hammer operated crimping tool.
It was impressive how well fixed the wires were, with just a small hole punched.
I wonder if it was actually just a nail driven into the crimp terminal in the correct way to form a completely secure bond with the wire.

Ah no you’ve fucked it now you’ll never get one of them. The only way you’ll sort it is if you leave it on your back deck for three weeks.

you can't just come onto a forum from the wild outside world and immediately expect folk to give you meaningful answers.
there used to be a bloke on here using a similar name but I don't think there's any connection.

At the risk of being serious Some crimp tools put dots on the crimp to denote the size of the jaw used.
Oh and you couldn't pull apart any properly made crimps done with a decent ratchet crimper. If you can pull it apart it wasn't properly made.

This one left the crimp sleeves round and punched one deep hole in which locked the cable. I'll have another look sometime to check this. Items not in same place as me currently.
