Nemesis will now attempt to set up a ZOOM video conference and advise you step-by-step how to fix your stern gland.

And nor should you. I can't do it without your permission though, so don't let it bother you.

Hi Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the stern Gear stuffing box whilst in the water and if so how easy/difficult is it. The reason is that one of the bolts sheared off and I either need to drill it out or buy a new one (option one is best as a new one is about £175) Thanks Yes, it probably is possible to tackle this job with the boat still afloat, but without at least one photograph of the whole sterntube assembly, and how the outer bearing is fitted to the tube and through the sternpost/swim plating, it won't be possible to advise or anticipate any of the things that could go so badly wrong. Pic has been provided.

Black magic. Actually I downloaded it from your dropbox post you now appear to have deleted. Anyway does it help? Yes, it does, . . thanks ! The outer bearing looks like a welded-in job, which means there won't be a problem if the (threaded at both ends) tube decides to come out with the stuffing box instead of staying put. And that wouldn't necessarily be so if it was an older type assembly with the tube passing through a boss in the sternpost/plating and a flanged outer bearing secured with a couple of hexagon setscrews, . . due to the possibility of one or both shearing off when the tube assembly is disturbed. If Jubjub can confirm that the outer bearing is a weld in job - the photo is a bit dark and shadowy there - and whether or not the stuffing box will pass through the semi-circular cut out in the transverse plate (between the beds) with the tailshaft in-situ, we can figure out the way to best go about getting the stuffing box out to deal with broken stud.

Never registered. usually images uploaded to the cesspit of god's mistakes are not required later. It's not a database situation it is a live discussion area.
