Its about the frequency at which the requirement for acknowledgement occurs. It is impossible to wait at a bus stop in Sheffield without getting into a conversation, whereas eye contact is studiously avoided on the tube. I assume you only get into conversation when someone else is at the bus stop too ... I'm not judging ... just a very different discussion subject if not Rog Eh? Who said that?

When you go shopping, do you wave and smile at everyone you meet? When driving, do you wave at everyone coming the other way? Thought not. 45 years ago when canals were more of an adventure and such acknowledgements meant something. Muted response need not be taken badly. Must mean that driving a Landrover Series or Defender is a bit of an adventure

There is a place for everything with everything in its place. I'm amazed Foxy doesn't have one.

I still remember the gear stick, and there was some kind of gearbox selection (two sets of gears?). I used to travel with him between Harlow and Watton-at-Stone where he lived here: I used to cut this lawn with the Flymo, and I grew turnips in my own little garden patch. And cos lettuces.

I have recently acquired a Motorhome. We soon discovered that other Motorhomers wave at us, so have tried hard to reciprocate. Was just getting smug about not having missed any on the way back from Weymouth today (it passes the time when droning along at 50mph with a queue of pissed off people behind you), when we got a double wave from driver and passenger ... dammit!

Must have been some drive today. The localised flooding i saw coming to work was amazing.
