As some might know, I'm bit of a techno rejectionist - having worked as an IT consultant in a former life, I vowed not to spend the rest of my life feeling frustrated with gadgety things not working as they should.
Fast forward to 4 years living on the boat and this week, the bosun introduced a Google Chrome Cast thingy to one of the boat tellys (I have 3) and I must say it's marvelous.

For 30 quid from currys, you get a small plastic disk with 2 wires hanging out of it - one plugs into th hdmi port on the 12 v telly, and the other to a usb power supply either independant of the telly or (as in my case) to the telly itself.
Said device allows my phone , tablet or laptop to "cast" Netflix, Britbox, I player ITv hub and presumably other thingys (I've thrown the box away so I can't list them all) to the telly without having to have cables dangling... or in the case of my previous netflix watching, a hdmi cable dangling across the saloon floor to the telly from the lap top OR the lap top having to be powered on using precious amps the fridge might neeed.
It's marvelous.
So much so, that I bought another to keep plugged into the cabin telly - They need to be "on" the home(boat) wifi network in order for it to work but that's easy to do with the auto app sent up thingy and from what I can tell, don't care whether the wifi point actually has internet or not... (to watch predownloaded thingsy) - obviously if you want to stream it there'll need to be an internet signal but for the money, it's a smashing little thing and I'm well pleased with it.
