This is probably in the wrong place but I (and anyone else who has fallen through the self - employment cracks) do need to ask for some help... The quick version is, Rishi is about to re-instate the Minimum Income Floor to the Universal Credit system ... in short, stopping people like me who (since it was suspended in March) have been able to claim the working tax credit from in the absence of any other government support.IF it goes, the tiny lifeline (some would say gin fund) will end - well for me it effectively already has as I got my final 408 quid yesterday and it's not pro-ratad... Given that usually going into winter I've had 28 weeks of income to live off, this year it was 7 and a half... ergo, I really DO need that money. I am lucky as I have no dependents and access to borrowing... MANY don't have that safety net (however unpalatable it is). Please take a moment to sign - it might be too late .] Personally I've already written to both my local MP and the Chancellor.... for all the good it might. do but with a 2nd national lockdown on the horizon, it might just make a difference. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/552461

Have you considered working or do you see it as a right to take half the year off?

Have you considered working or do you see it as a right to take half the year off? I think you will find that unemployment levels are very high at the moment so the chances of finding general (unskilled) paid work over the next 6 months is pretty slim.

That may be so, I simply noticed that the possibility hadn't had a mention.

Have you considered working or do you see it as a right to take half the year off? I am hoping to be able to do a few trips with customers on... which whilst I pretend to myself ISN'T work, in reality it is... it's just a whole lot more enjoyable than the previous 28 years of 70-90 hour weeks for someone else. There also a whole load of out of season maintenance jobs to be getting on with on the boat - along side working out 2022 schedules, working on the website, trying somekind of advertising and social media engagement. I rarely just sit on my arse doing nowt. In my case, having been a "proper" tax payer through the paye system for nearly 30 years, NOT having been given any financial support during covid when the government "stole" (for want of a better expression) 4 months peak income, receiving a meagre 408 quid a month (to offset losses of circa 20k) for a few more months sits perfectly comfortably with my conscience.

"Don't get me wrong - I AM complying with the guidance... I AM wearing a ruddy mask when in shops like I'm supposed to but it really is a load of cobblers having to wear a mask to get from a pub door to a table - then take it off once I'm sitting down. It makes NO sense... NOR does the "children being except" rubbish - everyone knows they are full of germs at the best of times... it's all gotten so silly it'd be funny if society hadn't been brainwashed. " Haha! Another one beginning to sound like me! Time to storm the Bastille - it's the only language they understand!

I would have thought Quaysider would have no trouble finding lucrative work as a male model or similar.

Here I am watching the supposed downing street briefing on bbc 1 (which appears to have been delayed whilst they try and work out what to say to cause least damage), I'm beginning to wish I was watching the Rugby with dogless instead.
My brothers girlfriend has suggested I take a few viagra and offer my services a s gigolo over the winter... not with her you understand!

We as business owners fall through the net too, as we take very little pay but bigger dividends so we are not eligible for anything other than a further grant of £1k during this lockdown. We can still plod on with a little work at home and are lucky that we own our office so don’t have rent or mortgage payments to make. Difference is we are looking at the end of our working life, we would have been in a much more onerous position when we were in the building the business.

What we miss most is not meeting family. Video calls are OK, but not the same. Not much different for Noreen, she can't go out on her own cos of the cataplexy. We are fortunate to be out in the countryside, we can still go Forest Bathing just out of the back gate.
