The trouble with politics is there are very few politicians now. Political parties are being overwhelmed by activists, and those activists are being voted in by trends set on social and main stream media. Words such as “hate” and “I wish you dead” are becoming the norm from these activists. They are not interested or intelligent enough to deal with the very basics of political issues. It’s all about how many followers they can get on Twitter and Facebook. There you go, you've got 2 likes now. ;-) No seriously, there is a lot in what you say. The trouble is that social media has allowed people to think they are more important than they are. Having said that, social media is still giving us alterative views on everything, so we have the freedom to make our own minds up. I'm not sure the same can be said for the mainstream media anymore. Seems to be heavily censored to me. it seems to me, seeing some of the outpourings on "soshul meedya" quite a few don't have a mind to make up

You've seemingly completely missed the points I made on hate and I want to kill you, both of which have come from social media. Social media seldom gives the opportunity for alternative views, it tends to serve only for the activists to shout you down when you express an alternative view to their own. You have plenty of examples on just this forum alone.

I thought you would be happy with the result. The result means nothing. Nothing will change. Capitalists will carry on making their fortunes, selling arms to oppressive regimes such as Indonesia and Saudi Arabia so they can bomb the shit out of their enemies. Kamala is a strange name - 'kamala' means 'awful' in the Finnish language. Perhaps she will still allow the sales of weapons and be a second 'Bomber Harris'? But a capitalist economy is what provides the cash for you to go boating. How many working people in socialist countries (China, N Korea, Cuba to name but three) own or are rich enough to rent a boat for a holiday? Basically none.

However, unlike mainstream media, people CAN vent how they feel by making comments. Whether it's any better than shouting at the TV I don't know, but at least it's a form of two way dialogue.

There are no 'socialist countries' and 'Communism' is a myth. The world runs on Capitalism, always has, always will. Capitalism - the fear of losing everything and being homeless and hungry and ill - is what makes people get out of theirs beds of a morning and go to work. There is a 'socialist cushion' in some countries so that some scrape by with a free pass.

This is where the governments want you - sitting on your chair ranting online - and not outside their doors with the noose in your hand. Dominic Cummings is a traitor! - oooh, look! Some cute kittens!

One must remember two things.
Politicians say whatever they think people want to hear - it's not possible to know what they really think or will do once elected other than in the most general terms.
Once elected those headline eye catching pronouncements and vague promises are immediately forgotton in favour of something more approaching both reality and the winning team's actual intentions.
This is not even getting into the whole figurehead situation.

A few of the countries not congratulating Biden yet...
North Korea's Kim Jong-un
Russia's Vladimir Putin
Saudi Arabia's rulers
China's Xi Jinping
Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan
Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro
Hungary's Viktor Orban
Says quite a lot about capitalism and democracy in my opinion.

An alternative view to Foxy's last post...
In the old days before the internet you only got to hear what's going on through the papers, then radio, then TV. If you wanted to research anything you had to go to a library. All one way media.
The internet has given us a two way media and a library as big as the world. Now it's becoming more and more filled with crap. Has it become more a threat than a service?

They'd be daft to when many of them are accused of interference. In the light of that amongst other things I doubt an endorsement from any of that lot would be welcome either TBH

I preferred it when it wasn't continuously trying to guess what I want but most people in the world will never have experienced that.
