Free school meals is a capitalist profit making scam.
It's all related to the academy schools bollocks (invented by labour but the Tories get blamed for it).
To put it simply
I'm like "pay a school £2.30 per meal and watch them feed the kids with 30p worth of food which gets delivered to the school by a large rigid truck."
I noticed the Brakes wagon turning up and I was like "ok, so in a school of 300 kids in a 'deprived area' you might be looking at 200 kids on free school meals so £400 a day surplus money".
Where is this money going ?
Surely it would be better to pay the parents so they can buy food for their kids, or is it just that profit rules the roost and people can't be trusted to feed their own children?
yeah yeah yeah. Scam !!

You mean the parents who spend it on more booze and fags and at the betting shop? Some parents cannot be trusted to look after their children.

Off out to a relative for dinner just now, will cost me £3 in transport costs, hope they give me more than 30p worth of edible food.......

Maybe it's more than 30p but I'm pretty sure economies of scale kick in after a while with food. Interesting way of raising the profile of a celebrity. Jamie Oliver was another one who got onto the school meals thing. I bet he made a lot of money out of that. Restaurants have to employ a lot of staff but a school will already have staff on the payroll so I think (and I'm like "I have no idea!") that the £2.30 per meal taken will only be for the food itself and perhaps a small electric bill for warming it up. I can do a plate of pasta and a couple of dirt cheap sausages for about 30p and I have no purchasing power. It's only lunch after all.

Threads like this make me despair of this place.
A child born into poverty and/or neglect shouldn’t have to for go the one chance in the day of a decent meal - Fucking shame on you Ross.

Speaking as someone who received free school meals in the sixties ... congratulations to the individuals and groups who have pushed for this.
We spend money on significantly less important matters.

The shame should be on the system not on an individual who points out the fucked-upness of the system If the only chance some children have of eating properly is being fed rubbish at school then what hope have we got ? There are other ways to deal with this issue. What about just not feeding children at school? Why would you need a meal to be provided by the school? Just take a pack lunch! A proper breakfast consisting of a bowl of UNBRANDED oats with either milk or preferably a mix of water and lime cordial (it's very nice) and a dinner consisting of meat and two veg (none of that processed rubbish) is enough. And it really isn't expensive and renders the lunch virtually irrelevant. But people will keep on feeding their kids Kellogg's bollocks and other branded shite. It's all fucked. And meanwhile all the fuckers selling this shit are sitting in big boats in the Mediterranean fucking about with their surfboards and I'm like "why did I not spot this money making opportunity years ago?"

This may well happen, however the sins of the parents should not be visited upon the children. I do think that a voucher system would be preferable to cash payments to prevent abuse of any scheme although obviously in an ideal scenario the Mick Philpotts of this world would have their testicles surgically removed before they were able to breed.

I think you need those glasses more than you think! Why should I be ashamed of suggesting kids should not go hungry?
