Clinton Cool I use a chromebook for more or less everything, had it a few years, updates are seamless, no hanging around like with ipad and windows laptop. We have them too but I prefer the chromebook. My next one will be a folding touchscreen /keyboard one. With enough oomph to also run Linux. I thought the thing with chrome books is that they really need to always be connected to the internet, so not ideal for a boat or a house with no broadband. But he wants to use it for Internet! Docs can be saved offline.

Once again my laptop has given up the ghost. They only seem to last a year or two, rubbish. I only need a laptop for simple tasks. Forums, bit of streaming, eBay, banking, that type of thing. Looking around for a new one it seems Android ones are much cheaper than Windows equivalents. I don't like Windows, always stealing my data doing updates that I can't control and don't need. Would an Android one do the job? I just want something simple that doesn't constantly steal data, can connect with wifi and my dongle. The chrome laptops are ok, but have a short lifespan, plus the fact many are emmc rather than ssd or hdd. Emmc cannot be upgraded to ssd either. I use an iPad, Samsung tab and a Windows laptop. Sadly, nothing seems to be on a par with Windows at the end of the day. If you get a Windows laptop, at least you can upgrade it both with software and hardware. As others have stated, go with ssd and at least 250gb. You can always add memory if 4gb is not enough. I've used mine for 5 years, there's no need to upgrade. There's enough memory etc to do the job Ricco wants. I don't see Clinton Cool as a techy tinkerer, which some of us are. The same can be said about memory etc on an ipad, can't be upgraded.

I do think if you don't want any hassle then the ipad is the way to go, have had a couple and iPhones and they work out the box, they update themselves and last a good five years before they need replacing due to slowing down.

You just buy a fuck off ipad, 128gb, that's plenty. The pad is only for surfing really and lots of apps. My laptop boots in 7 seconds and has 1tb ssd for anything serious such as vids and lightroom etc. The chrome lappies are just for kids.

"mines bigger than yours" 🤣🤣🤣🤣. It's how you use it lad, with care so as not to scare anyone or break any furniture.

I liked my Sinclair QL and it's microdrives. Also quite like the IBM 086 and the citizen 120D printer. And the Panasonic KXP-1081 printer. Love the buzz of the old dot matrix printers. And the cheap ribbons. Actually I just bought an old Silver Reed typewriter. Electric driven one with the long arms with the letters on the end. You just tap the key and it whacks the letter onto the paper. No need to hit the keys hard. It's great fun. Obviously this is just for adding written words to paper but it's cool because of the lack of editing options. Computers allow too much editing which takes out the original content. First draught on a typewriter, clean it up a bit on a computer then publish and watch the millions roll in to the bank account. Hmm Good theory anyway !

Don't get sucked in to the drive for a bigger hard drive.

The ones who think they can run the country better live in quite nice locations. Corbyn even played Polo (the bike variant). Maybe this is the problen, us minions don't really have any representation. I'm not sure we ever had really, wasn't the Labour party set up just to avoid a revolution? Seriously though, I think we should have more MP's from poorer backgrounds in parliment. Again, it probably wouidn't make much difference if the cabinet ignore parliment, but it might make things look fairer....and isn't that what it's all about these days....looking the part?

Kier passes your test though, Father a toolmaker*, Mum a nurse. Hardly posh, as our resident posh twat will confirm. *The nicest labour members had toolmakers for Dads. My Dad's claim to fame was making the Press tool for the small bone shaped hide dog chews.

Must admit, toolmakers are very clever usually, and they have spent much of their life working with their hands. I'm not sure that's true for all politicians... well not in that way.

I had one of these. Green screen and a colour one. Scratch that, I had the 128k. Built in disk drive. Wrote quite a few games on it.
