Where's Debs when there's important stuff to report back, like how to manage a waterway. Are you paying attention lass? Steady, she has a Devonshire minder with keyboard happy fingers.....

I should have highlited bale, it might not have gone straight over your head. Why bother highlighting it when the term used when referring to providing financial assistance is "bail out" not "bale out". The latter would be correct for leaping from a doomed aircraft or, arguably, manually removing water from a boat using a bucket. You were referring to taxpayers providing financial assistance to CRT. Bailing them out.

Notice Alert Aire & Calder Navigation Main Line Location: Pollington Lock and Goole Caisson Starts At: Lock 13, Pollington Lock Ends At: Goole Pipebridge Sunday 20 December 2020 14:30 until Monday 4 January 2021 23:59 Type: Navigation Closure Reason: Structure failure ________________________________________ Update on 23/12/2020: On the 22nd December the team on site placed around 150 tonne bags of stone on either side of the breach hole and this slowed the flow of water leaving the canal. The plan for the 23rd December is to continue with this work, with the helicopter placing probably around another 100 bags of stone, to shore up the hole. Once enough have been placed we will start to place clay around the bags to create a water tight seal and depending on how works proceed today, this could be later today or tomorrow. We have taken the decision to keep the navigation closed until January 4th as a precaution.

That sounds worrying if that is going to be their "permanent" repair, as they have been placing the bags in the canal. If it is just until they have stopped the leak and they then re-instate the embankment and the culvert and they then remove the bags (and that will be a heck of a job on it's own) ...... I have been past there a few times but not enough to be able to visualise the canal at that spot with any accuracy, but it is on the outside of a bend.... yes I know it's a wide canal but after years of fighting CRT, traffic is just beginning to creep back onto the waterways and it is only just profitable for big barges carrying large loads. The last thing needed is any restriction that will prevent the very largest barges being used ...... they already have restrictions in the loaded draft due to the bottom being too close to the top
