Profiteering from the pandemic is despicable in my opinion.
So it's a bit unfortunate that I am.
Received a random letter from ONS / Oxford uni asking if I would agree to take part in a Covid survey, where they come to you house and you do a test swab thingy (back of throat and nose) and they take it away to be tested. You get the results in a few days by letter. If you agree, they will come back every week for a repeat.
AND they give you £50 for the first visit and £25 for each subsequent visit, by means of an e-token that you can use to buy e-vouchers (like gift tokens) for a large selection of retailers. I chose Markies.
I just got the first £50, they came again last week and are coming again tomorrow, so that will be another £50.
Its not particularly nice having to poke a swab thingy into the back of your throat, makes you gag. Or up your nose, makes your eyes water. But then at £25 for 2 minutes work, it seems worth it!
Anyone else involved in that one?

My brothers wife has been tested regularly for the ONS statistics all year.
She'd been involved for a couple of months before she learned about the vouchers as a reward.

I understand she did indeed ... initially she liked the idea of being regularly tested so agreed without realising there were more tangible benefits. Of course her daughter and three grandaughters claim most of the vouchers, but nevertheless it's a very rewarding system. I think you have to be VERY old to be invited to take part (sil is in her late sixties and epileptic, although controlled by medication). A young, virile, athletic chap like myself couldn't hope to be involved  Rog |

And I'm like "Guinea pigs" isn't it yeah yeah yeah and £50 sounds like a first world problem to me.
I'd rather stand beside the traffic with a coffee cup hoping for donations.

It does seem to be a bit of an obvious issue that people walking about are exhaling virus particles yet none of that can be recognised by a test..
That's one for the ologist types to explain.
Hopefully they will do so at some point.
It's actually quite amusing to watch the whole politician v scientist thing in all this.
On one of the press conferences about a week ago the Johnson said "we must follow the science" then the Whitty said "this must be a decision for politicians".
And I was like "hey dudes would you like to delegate this ?"
Isn't it.
