Rapidly losing motivation. Is it lockdown,Covid, dark winter months, not being able to go to my boat? Loads of little jobs around the house/garden to do but can't be arsed. Better get dressed and take the dogs for a walkπ£π€ͺ

Or the next day...

I have some decking to put down in the coming weeks, then some other bits to do round the garden pre spring, plenty of stuff to fiddle with in the man cave also, and the 6 nations kick off in four weeks.
We had planned to visit the boat next weekend, to check its all ok and grab a tv from it for use at home, unsure what to do now as the tv part is a non essential visit, but the checking of the boat for me is essential, I wonder if I did go and got pulled by the rozzers, would they believe me and let me proceed if I explained another boater had messaged me to let me know my boat was listing badly..

I would have thought that checking on the security of expensive property was a reasonable excuse, especially as itβs a boat, and not eg a house which could reasonably be expected to sit happily unattended for years. I think you would have to travel there and back in a day though, not overnight, to be in keeping with the law. Anyway, if you leave it for a couple weeks the over-zealous plod will have got bored with the idea and be having a cuppa in the shop rather than be out looking for trouble. And if you are alone in the car itβs much easier to claim it is for work or other essential reasons, which is not the case if you have a car full of wife and kids.

Well it's funny you should mention that as we wanted to go to our boat as we had a BSS inspection booked in, it runs out on the 12th, and we need it for the license at the end of January. I rang CRT for advice but they didn't have an answer other than there is a two month leeway from when it is due. We are extremely isolated here at home, haven't seen anyone for weeks, if not months, have every thing delivered, can pay for petrol at the pump and there is no one at the mooring we would come in contact with. As to a reason the owner of the moorings did ring to tell me she could hear an alarm going off so, even though I know it is just the alarm clock, I thought of saying it is was something more serious if I was stopped. Thing is you just don't know what to do for the best. Made more difficult as we live in Wales and they are doing 'border' checks. Apparently over 200 people were caught entering Wales on New Year's Day to visit beauty spots. They were in breach of the rules however a burger van was allowed to be there selling salmonella!!!!π€ Although it is a 3 hour drive I could, and have, done it in a day.

did you notice the date on that was 20th December? I think this one is a bit stricter, so I'm not sure the advice in the article is applicable

All the restrictions are to prevent social interaction surely.
Provided one stays in the car on the journey to the boat and back, I don't see an issue ... the boat needs to be checked out at some point.

Don't be silly, decking is best done later in the year, in January, you should currently be designing and building your man shed, sourcing and sawing logs for next winter. Build a log storage hut instead with your decking, and a nice bookcase for 't wife if she complains. PS no worries about your boat listing, it's been like that for months, I think there is a big pool of diesel too, always looks worse than it is.

We would have less contact than going to a supermarket. We can get the boat ready for the examiner and leave him to it while we sit and have a cuppa in our heated and carpeted shed!!!β

But in the real world, mr plod is only interested in the letter of the law or even his own embroidered letter of the law, not common sense.

I suspect there are (as always) insufficient Police officers to have more than a minimal affect on societal behaviours ... and in any case I suggest the journey is entirely essential and involves no social interaction (unless the police choose to stop the car).

SUN SUN SUN, ..... winter is over, forget your troubles, empty the Ardmore and have a siesta, it will all be a dream, JR is not dead, Boris has five wives, so converts to Islam, resigns, and we all get through the next three months without sinking in the Thames.
