Don't know if it was one of your days ,but I had a go at juggling for one activity, then trying to get round the playground whilst trying to balance on a giant ball.I had a lot of assistance with the second activityπ. Well done you, especially surviving the walking globe. IMHO one of the most dangerous bits of kit for a beginner, very easy to come off quickly and badly. Again IMHO, it's the class idiot, no sense, no fear, relaxed and chilled out, who succeeds quickly with the dangerous skills. Anyone with sense gets tense with panic and then can't maintain balance. Does that ring a bell? ππππ PS, it wouldn't have been me, I wouldn't use a walking globe in short sessions, no time to supervise. I had two young men helping me... Mind you,I was a lot younger then & a fair bit slimmer !!π

Nothing of the sort. It's so easy for people to declare who is or isn't deserving ... I was merely emphasising that the issue raised was about feeding CHILDREN ! I suspect no one sets out to have a shit life and there (but for good fortune and the blessing of people willing to help and guide us) goes any of us. Surely in 2021 it should not be an unreasonable expectation that kids who need feeding should get it and of good quality ? Rog so you are of the opinion that all the families receiving free school meals are deserving ? that none are on the fiddle for what ever they can get ? do you believe that every familly receiving benefits is deserving ?
Perhaps one could argue that they are. I mean, there aren't jobs for all of these benefit claimants. Fifty years ago there were mills and factories they could work in, and people did, but they have all gone now. I wouldn't dispute that many children go hungry because their parents prefer to spend their disposable income on scratchcards. An enormous societal problem is that ever since the 1960s and the dawn of gender equality when women fought for the right to work (My Mum says "We fought for the right to work, and we won the obligation to work"), the more intelligent and industrious of the fairer sex have delayed childbirth in order to pursue careers, while the no-hopers had little option but to breed in order to obtain a satisfactory lifestyle. In effect, exactly the same idea that Adolf had, only the other way round. What to do about it? Maybe in the long term to disincentive the Mairead Philpotts of this world by providing benefits for only the first one or two children? But really, it's not in my job description to deal with it.

If this is so I have this great offer for you for a superb classic second hand car for sale
You know damn well I was referring to the parents and not the children and I had already said that there wouldn't be time to check everything so it would have to be blanket
if you criticise me at least do it for what I actually say and not what you think I say
Free school meals go directly to the children ... parents are not fed. How can anyone argue against feeding kids one quality (therein lies the problem) meal a day ? My initial reply was relating to Clinton Cool ... you decided to respond. I stand by my opinions, but feel free to express others ... it is a discussion forum after all. Rog ETA Should add that I'll not say you're being 'deliberately dense' if you disagree JohnV

I was a teacher for 35 years & boy did I see vast differences with people claiming help. There were folk who really tried hard-but still struggled. They were often the ones who didn't know what they were entitled to & didn't like the idea of asking people in authority.I obviously wasn't scary enough as I often got asked for help, including form filling-I was more than happy to do this. Then there were folk who knew exactly what they were entitled to & made sure they got it,fair enoughππΌ.The other ones, were folk who really knew how to play the system. The ones who felt all Sky channels were essential & their right. The folk who went to food banks(yes they did exist back then)& told me it was because they needed the money for trips back home or holibobs. There was even one family who said that they needed to go 'home' to check on their house build. They were often in the local pub straight after school by all accounts,I didn't see them myself but the landlady's kiddies were pupils. The folk I feel heart sorry for now,are the people who've lost their jobs due to the pandemic & now need to ask for help. Many of these people will feel guilty of failure & that's so wrong. It's an alien concept for them & I can see how bad this must make them feel. This is just my experience & my thoughts, not a statement of what's right or wrong.

Free school meals is a bit of a scam in itself. Yes you want to feed the kids but the .gov allocates a certain amount (Β£2.30 or Google something) per child per meal taken.
Ok. Fair enough. For Β£2.30 you could give anyone a decent meal. Never mind children an adult will be well fed.
The problem comes when scum profiteers spot the obvious situation and take the money then feed the kids rubbish which ends up making them ill.
That's no good. Well it would be good for the money. Give them 30p worth of food and take the Β£2 a day per child as a profit and it adds up pretty fast. Oh look we have 300 kids on meals. That's Β£600 a day. Nice!
It's a tricky one really.
I reckon the whole welfare state thing is a scam anyway. It's designed to create an imbalance in society where the wealthy take money from the working man and put it in the pocket of the idle feckless. The working man hates these idle feckless and the wealthy man is happy because the idle feckless are not paying attention to the fact he has assets as they would rather just spend the free money on beer and fags. And the working man is too busy working and paying his taxes to notice that the wealthy man is picking his pockets.
Simplification but welfare state is a scam.
Let people starve. It's a modern democratic society. Will people actually starve?
Doubtful but a great fear tactic tool.
With any luck the mass raid on government coffers during this med panic might change the situation but most likely outcome is that future generations of workers will just be taxed more.
And the rich will get rich, the poor will get free pizzas and the blah blah will blah blah blah.

And some say graffiti is not art. The utter randomness of that is brilliant ... mind you I wouldn't want it painted on the side of my house Rog
