I didn't like to say anything about these quick weight loss meals etc in case folk thought I was bitching.But...one of my friends must have spent an absolute fortune on WW,Cambridge diet & the like over the years(I've known her for over 44 yrs). She's still a plumpious lass & probably always will be.If these diet things really worked, they'd cease to exist after a while as nobody would need to lose weight. If it works for you Mark in the short term, great but it's not a magic fix.Got to say,I used to be the slim friend but am now catching her up fairly swiftly !😆

Atkins, Cambridge, Cornflake, etc etc...u name it someone tried it Yo yo dieters..cos they didn't carry on for very long on any My old friend in Scotland tried Cabbage soup diet for 5 days and then apparently he was supposed to eat 7 bananas in a day..I persuaded him not a good idea. Supermarkets are full of calorie controlled meals which are probably better than gimmicky ones.. However I guess for short term quick fix, the gimmicks are ok. I watched that TV programme which trialled loads of different diets according to peoples likes...some folk lost loads of weight but they seemed to be the ones that not only followed the diet but upped the exercise.

I watched that TV programme which trialled loads of different diets according to peoples likes...some folk lost loads of weight but they seemed to be the ones that not only followed the diet but upped the exercise. I absolutely agree with both you ladies on this ... I spent my childhood watching my (obviously pre-disposed to being plump) mother lurch from one diet fad to another ... going up and down but never staying down for more than a few weeks... she even tried hypnosis sessions once a week (although that could have been more a menopausal thing) - it made her feel better but never slimmer! Without being unkind about her, it was mainly down to her lifestyle and lack of movement - ... she basically needed to MOVE about more, and get out of the habit of having a biscuit every time she had a cup of tea (6-8 a day). Her life was one of "house-wife" ... not ALLOWED to go out to work - my dad being one of 13 who's own dad had snuffed it when he was 13 and had watched his own mother scrubbing floors and skivvying to feed her family was adamant, "no wife of mine will ever have to work". His intentions were perhaps good but the outcome for mum was a sedentary life-style. For some, it's clearly a lack of education in regards healthy eating/exercise - what we see as common sense... for others, a genetic predisposition to a lower metabolic rate. Perhaps I have a touch of the latter - It still irks me my brother eats junk all the time and his only exercise has ever been "fishing". Stlil - it is what it is though and I know when my brain clicks over and says enough is enough and it's time to do something about it. I PLAN to hover around 12 stone once I get there for THIS year and next year stay within a half stone up (or down) allowance to enjoy periods of indulgence when appropriate...

The simple fact is that pepople who eat more than they need get fat. Whatever your makeup there's an amount of food you need which may not match how much you want.

The simple fact is that pepople who eat more than they need get fat. Or another way to look at it. If you don't burn off the calories you consume, you get fat. If you have a very active life style you can reward yourself with lots of cake. If you're a lazy layabout you can still reward yourself...with celery.

Sorry to be a bore, I've posted this before. Many years ago I saw a few episodes of a TV prog called "Super size / Super skinny" or similar. They start by looking at what they eat as well as how much. In a nutshell the skinny people lived on mars bars and soft drinks and the fat people lived on savouries. The answer is less pies and more mars bars. My ex sis-in-law always had tree trunk legs and a huge arse. She was a master pastry/cake/baker type. When she was 30 she ate nothing but cabbage for several months, lost the lot and it never came back. She eats like a bird, skips meals...too thin now but obsessed.

I knew a few people who tried the Atkin diet where you just eat meat. I think it worked well but apparently there are side effects like bad breath and constipation. So maybe only good for single people!

So maybe only good for single people! Another friend of mine, a divorced middle aged farmer, lived on "whatever" on toast and spent every day from 5pm to 8 or 9pm drinking real ale in the pub. He was pretty chubby. Then he got got gout and was told that yeasty things (beer and toast) were bad for it. So he gave up toast. His gout got a bit better but as a side effect the stones dropped off in no time. He had a nutty girlfriend who liked to bite him, you know when. He showed me his arm once to see what I thought about that, his forearm was 100% black and blue and covered with deep teeth marks. He was beginning to wonder if it was worth it. The lives people live and you would never guess!

3 week update - Today I am 13 stone, 2 lbs and 1/8th... ergo, I've lost 1 stone and half a pound since I began. ergo, I'm getting there and are on track to be comfortable in my clothes by the time we chug off in mid March... whatever the tier's are at that point. I must confess it is the hardest it's ever been... Age being the obvious excuse. Still, I plan to lose 2lbs a week for the next couple of months and then level off to maintenance weight around 12 - giving myself half a stone up and down to play with.... we'll see how that pans out.

Well done Mark... It does get tougher as u get older though I rarely have to bother...I think the fact I'm not that interested in food helps.. I may have to diet once son goes as he enjoys food preparation and clothes r getting tad snug.
