Nothing near us...
From reading on the web even the 'founder' of the first time happy clapping didn't take part, appears she has been trolled on social media.
Think I might take a break from Social media also, its all getting too toxic, you cant say anything without someone shouting a different opinion in a hostile way or a faceless troll giving it large.
I have plenty of other stuff to keep me occupied so don't really need the stress of everything going on or reading all the garbage.

I think he was doing dark humour.
It's okay. Everyone is dying everywhere but there is still humour to be had at the end of the day.
Taking it too seriously is when it all goes wrong.
I'd rather be on a ventilator than not be allowed to accept dark humour.
And racism, and sexism, and all the other isms that are viewed as unacceptable.
At the end of the day people are people and I was like "blah blah blah we don't want to know what you thought dear"
To quite the relatives !

The measure of humour is whether it makes one laugh.
If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck.
The man's an arse.

The measure of humour is whether it makes one laugh. Rog Well yes that did make me laugh ! Glad to know there are other people as damagingly self centred as I am out there !! Here's a clue: Some people find this funny (I include myself on the list) --- A man has just been found guilty by the jury. The judge asks him "do you have anything to say before I pass sentence?" "Fuck all," says the defendant. The judge asks his defence council "what did he say?" "He said 'fuck all' your honour." The judge replies "are you sure, I could have sworn I saw his lips move!" --- Whether you find it funny is irrelevant old boy. Irrelevant.

Andrew, poking fun at people who are working their arses off and in many cases the stress of coping with what is happening around them is pushing them to the limit and beyond is very wrong ....... that wasn't dark humour that was an attack on people who are struggling to cope and in my view was contemptible

I was quite surprised to see this balanced article from the BBC yesterday showing how many more spare beds there were this December (2020) compared with last December. (2019). Obvioisly being national data, it doesn't show up hotspot areas. The report also indicates that many of the empty beds wouid normally be occupied by those needing surgery and treatment for other ailments, which have been postponed due to the measures. www.bbc.co.uk/news/55536762This seems to be a repeat of what happened during the first lockdown where hospitals were far less busy than the previous 5 years for the same period. I understand that staffing issues are also a problem but I can't find that stat anywhere. I believe that the longer this lockdown goes on, it becomes more important than ever for OUR government to justify the measures with open public data. I'd like to see the risk assesment data from SAGE regarding the predicted future load on the NHS due to cancelled operations, treatment and scans....if there is any?

JohnV I put naughtyfox on a balancing scale ages ago and I tend towards the "wind up and hope for more content on the forum" rather than "blatantly offensive individual". Of course everyone is free to make their own assumptions. I would wager that there is a probably a pretty healthy line of humour running among NHS workers at the moment. Who knows it could end up being quite contagious. Be careful about people.

it's not just beds Normally with ITU it is one nurse per patient some of the London hospitals are now at the stage where one nurse is having to look after three patients, as one nurse was saying they are getting to the point where they have to chose who they look after first which is not something that should ever be put on them.
That particular hospital is not doing routine operations because the operating theatres have been converted to ITU units (they are the quickest things to convert because they have most of the facilities needed).
spare capacity is in other areas (for example in East Yorks the infection level is a third of London) but in the worst hit areas things are tight.
Another thing that is helping is treatment has been developed that greatly reduces the length of time people spend in ITU and another drug that reduces the percentage of people that require ITU
Most of that advantage has been lost because of the new variant but without them we would probably be even deeper in the mire

I found that post of Foxy's sickening even by his standards... Its a pity that people like Foxy who constantly write this bile cannot be taken on a tour of the ITU's Its not 'humour' it illustrates a total lack of understanding and empathy for the plight of the overstretched, overburdened NHS staff in critical areas. To use operating theatres as ITU is scary as we then lose facilities to operate... If they do operate on emergencies where do they then safely care for them if ITU full of Covid? There are some very harrowing decisions having to be made now.
