Mine is Gerwyn Price. Winner PDC world championship 2021.
I don't ever watch any sports live but I know he's a good darts player and pleased he won.
Class act.
Anyone else have any current favourites?
(Not a joke btw)

Shame he continued past his best to become just another ‘also-ran’ with a lousy sportsmanship display (2015 season deliberate kick-out! ) Jockey Wilson for me👍

I never really enjoyed watching horse racing.

Anyway, I am really not into spectator sports at all. Can’t see the point. People say they are interested in sport when what they actually mean is sitting on the sofa watching other people doing it. Rather sad IMO.

Lots of great sportsmen do. For instance Tiger woods, Andy Murray and many others. Vale lives to race, why quit when he is still one of the best about. Anyway, with Marc about, everyone has been an also ran for the last few years.

Rather sad IMO. Not always the case is it Nick? Ali and me have followed MotoGP for years and attended many races in many different countries. Then there’s the millions who watch live sport. It’s not all about TV.

I don't have a sofa or a telly.
Just occasionally watch old darts matches on my phone as I like darts.

It’s not all about TV. Ok but watching it from a stand or watching it from the telly seem very similar to me. You are still passively watching it, not actually doing it yourself. Actually watching it from the telly can be better - years ago Bristow used to do helicopter flights into Silverstone for the Grand Prix, I took a Super Puma in there with 18 rich passengers. With the helicopter parked inside the track we obviously got to watch it live, for free. But after a few minutes of catching the odd glimpse of cars passing too fast to see what was going on, and it being excruciatingly loud, i retired to the hospitality tent and watched it on the telly, where it was easier to see what was going on. Yes marginally better than reading a book maybe, but I certainly wouldn’t have paid to see it. On the other hand, if I was given the opportunity to drive an F1 car around the track, obviously I’d jump at it.

I remember the helicopters into Silverstone. Was moored somewhere near Towcester (Grafton Regis rings a bell and there was what seemed like an endless stream of them.

Similar to music festivals. Did used to do lots of track days, back in the day when my body would fit the shape of a track bike. Will be doing a few in my car sometime when allowed again. As you said, can’t beat doing it yourself.

Rather sad IMO. Most sports fans HAVE played sport, but never good enough to achieve elite level. The buzz of the crowd at a live sporting event compensates for the limited view. TV cannot broadcast the atmosphere of an event. Sport is drama in its purest sense, which is why it is so popular ... not sad at all. Rog
