I'm sure most of you have heard/seen the news about the two women out for a walk at a reservoir who were fined by the police ๐ฎ who also said that a cup of tea constitutes a picnic. I am not a conspiracy theorist but this looks staged to me especially when you see their lovely cosmetically enhanced faces smiling out. Are we being dumbed down and deliberately frightened?๐คช

Groping cops just wanting to touch them up. Search them for drugs / weapons!

Obviously they are making the most of it (and I donโt really blame them for that) but it seems to be a valid story, and as a result Derbyshire fuzz have said are revisiting the fines they have issued to ensure they are for breaches of the law, not just because the cop thought they were too dolled up for his liking.

I think jubjub has a point about news being dumbed down, and frightening people. Ali has her mum on the phone earlier, she watches BBC news and believes all the headlines. If you take there headlines as gospel, you really might believe the end of the world is nigh. Ali tried to explain this, tries making her understand that her chances of death with covid are still very small... but in one ear and out the other im afraid.

Dumbing down is a real problem. It's happening everywhere not just in news.
Gradual idiotisation of humans. Very sad.

Surely it's a matter of safety, to take a flask when going for a walk in the frozen wastes? What if one slipped and broke a hip (flask). They'd need a brew to keep warm.

ah!! Ms Allen has mental health issues (course she has - dressed up in an old flour sack) and needs to be near water to calm her nerves. I'm sure everyone in the country could make similar claims - what a bunch of softies we (or rather "they") have become.
driving several miles to find an open space to exercise is surely unnecessary unless you live in an industrial wasteland.
if the reservoir beauty spot is miles away from any habitation then the police are surely within their rights taking action.
................ as for classifying carrying a cup of coffee as a "picnic" - well that is utter nonsense unless you sit down on a park bench and bring out the cheese and cress sandwiches.

Social interaction spreads the virus ... nothing else.
Sitting in a car with your own household members doesn't ... having a cuppa or sandwich away from the rest of the world doesn't.
It's these kind of idiotic restrictions that encourage folk to say 'Sod it, I'll do as I like'.
There's a whole level of nonsense introduced under the guise of 'safety' ... and in truth it is a huge conceit to believe we can control a virus ... the best we could ever have hoped for is minimising its spread.

I think jubjub has a point about news being dumbed down, and frightening people. The whole country has been dumbed down for many years. Listen to any quiz show on, eg Radio 4, and it's shocking how thick 50% of Brits are. Cashiers look at the till which tells them how much change to give back. Can't they work it out in their heads? Answer - obviously not. And now, according to this BBC propaganda scare story, Covid can kill you whilst you sleep. You'll wake up dead!! That's it - I'm not sleeping any more!! Not sure we Brits have gotten thicker. Just different now. My mental arithmetic is pretty good. I can work metric into imperial and vice versus in the blink of an eye. Put me in front of a PC and I struggle to turn it on. Worlds changed, younger generation have new tools at their disposal.

Rog Just no logic with the rules are there? Been told today to stay in, assume I have covid and yet, in the same morning, I read that I can go fishing! Mad as them people from Atherstone ,these experts.

You should be praised for your intimate knowledge of the current state of the nation, bearing in mind you don't even live here, based presumably on listening to quiz shows on R4.
Didn't you know that current rules at the Beeb include selecting thick twunts to go on quiz shows so that the average listener feels clever and smug? Keep up at the back there.

Simple really, Derbyshire police followed two cars from out of the county, they have issued warnings that its not allowed, clearly they had been shopping for coffee as the cups are disposable, so they stopped them and fined them for being stupid and breaking the law1 Last time they sent up drones and named and shamed law breakers, now they are fining them, its the only way to treat idiots because thats what they are. Rant over and I am sure the ladies wont repeat the mistake again
