Are you sure your not at sawley? Someone was just having issues here, with a widebeam. My advice is wait until tmw when itβs not going to be windy.

Not me at Sawley, I saw a 14 footer go past earlier, now wondering if this is them? I guess a lot of folk need fuel after this icy stretch. I imagine the flood barriers are closed at Sawley though, personally I wouldn't fancy the wee river crossing needed atm, that's if its open, would be suprised if it is. Its really difficult to get fuel round here atm since Dobsons at Shardlow are not doing it. Has to be Sawley with tubs or Willington.

Glad to hear youβve got some help.

Its really difficult to get fuel round here atm since Dobsons at Shardlow are not doing it. Has to be Sawley with tubs or Willington. There are no "flood barriers" at Sawley, . . it's just a flood lock, . . which works like any other lock when it's 'on' - ie. when the gates are in operation and shut instead of being open and chained back at both ends when the river is at or around normal levels. The EA's recorder/gauge at Shardlow is showing around 2 feet of 'fresh' in the Trent there at the moment, which is nothing to be concerned over, and certainly not any reason to be humping diesel about in cans instead of taking the boat down to Sawley and filling up from the pump. The other bonus you'd get from doing that would be coming back onto the canal at Derwent Mouth from Sawley you'll be facing the right way for going on up to Weston. If you'd like me to come with you down to Sawley tomorrow I'd be quite happy to do so. The TB messaging facility doesn't seem to work on the version I get on this laptop, so if you would like a couple of hours of professional help to go down to Sawley to oil up and back to Shardlow tomorrow you can reach me on < Canalrivertransport@mail.com > or on 07376 134702.

Lol. Bless you Tony, super kind. Think have resolved my winter refuelling problem now; my neighbour is going to deliver it for me every week. Can stay put in Weston now once I get back tomorrow and focus on keeping warm till the sun shines again. So good of you to offer your help, thank you. T.x
