My friend who just bought one had an SJ years ago and it put him off but this one is a completely different kettle of fish. I think you have already decided.

I am not sure if it was my 525 diesel Beemer that @gazza was referring to when he said "you treat that like a works van" I protested my innocence as there were no MaccyD wrappers in the footwells! But it was useful for carting about a 3m double extension ladder, No roof bars, so just shoved it through the sunroof, then softly nudged it shut. No low bridges to go under. Worked OK!

Anyway that one is sold and not to me.
There is a place near Oxford with loads of them so a trip up there tomorrow night be worthwhile..
I did notice MoT advisory on that grey one said slight corrosion around seatbelt mounts so that's not entirely ideal.

The Suzuki OHC engines & gearboxes are a nice bit of engineering, I had several of the vans. One disgraced itself on a motorway by dropping the head of #1 exhaust valve through the piston. It had done a fair mileage though, several trips into Spain etc. Made an awful mess of the head and piston. I did naughty things to it so that it ran on 3 cylinders for another year before I sold it. The shrapnel was still in the sump! It ran fine on three! The SJ was a shocker for turning over, sis in law was near killed in hers.
The early Suzuki coupe car, can't remember the model, was a cracking run about too.

This was the Fourtrak around 1992, which I ended up running until 1997. The rust had been bad on it from early on and its first few years were on our farm in Wales. I did a 180 in that once on tarmac so no these ones didn't fall over. Back wheel drive quite exciting! Happy days. That was my rather nice animal on the bonnet, she carried on until 2005 when she died on my lap on one of my boats.

I had a Daihatsu 4 Trak in the UAE in 1981 on balloon tyres and drove thousands of miles across desert and dunes including some pretty hairy cross slopes. Never came near to rolling.

Did you have the SJ? They were known for rolling. My dad bought the first Jap 4x4 new in 1978 (Daihatsu Fourtrak Taft F20) and he used to relentlessly take the piss of the Suzuki SJ because of this basic flaw. The Jimny seems to have sorted that problem, and I go into corners slowly anyway. It's just on open roads I drive too fast, on windy roads I always drive slowly anyway. Yep- I was great fun and felt like a go cart... only not as stable or low. I bought it as an inbeteener when I ahem (wrote off my vitara which I'm not owning up to) - that was a hairdressers car too, Fun times and great in bad weather... just not on a sunny day on the way home from work! I had a look through my cloud to see if I had any photos (scanned and uploaded) but no... nearest one I could find was a goole image oh to be young again. I followed it with a swift gti, twin cam 16 v rocket... that was MORE fun but the insurance (due to aforementioned 1st crash and subsequent roly poly) was 1800 per year... and that was going back a LONG time. I feel much safer in my 16/17 tonnes of sewer tube although cornering upstream with with tide behind, is MORE scary! My BIL had one like that I drove it about a bit and it was a laugh.

I have had various small 4x4, first was a Suzuki LJ80 which was pretty unstoppable despite only having 800cc engine, next was a Dahatsu Sportrak again a good unstoppable vehicle. Now C has a Rav4 and I have a Yeti which despite what you might think is pretty good off road although unlike the LJ80 it hasn't been to the top of Arbury Hill 🌚

Now here’s a thing - your old little Suzuki bears the registration mark ending BD - It was supplied new in Northamptonshire, sadly I can’t find any reference to former Suzuki car dealers in the county - there couldn’t have been many! They were hardly a mainstream brand back then.

We brought a brand new car in Hampshire but it was given a Leicester plate as that was their head office and they dealt with register cars. Much to my disgust.

All ours were from Whalley Bridge, can't remember the regs. Not many dealers as you say.

They were hardly a mainstream brand back then. Whilst I'm probably wrong. We brought a brand new car in Hampshire but it was given a Leicester plate as that was their head office and they dealt with register cars. Much to my disgust. Most of ours have been local reg - even the newer 51 on stuff. Odd one was our pre-registered Skoda Octavia, head office is MK so they use Northamptonshire area letters. We purchased it from Meadens in Sway with 13 delivery miles on the clock, no one else had driven it. Had to get the train down to collect it then drive it all the way back to Northamptonshire! I was specifically after a petrol 4x4 estate in a decent colour (Black Magic) - it was the only one available in the county at the time! Everyone wanted 2.0 diesels - this was before dieselgate though! Ours had sat about for 6 months with no takers, we snapped it up for a massive discount off a new order one - 7k under list and a further 2k off the forecourt screen price at meadens along with a 3 year service plan, Autoglym paint protection, a towbar and a spare wheel kit swapped with another vehicle in their stock! All thrown in FOC - I didn’t manage to get a full tank of fuel out of them though 🙈 they did bung a nice bunch of flowers on the parcel shelf for Mrs Gazza - I’d have rather had the petrol 🤪🍻👍 9 years and 90k later it’s been a fabulous car. Don’t tell anyone but Ive got a bike with a fenland reg - supplied by a KTM Dealer in Market Deeping - we did a high six on completing the deal 🙈🤪🍻👍 PS, I too would have been disgusted having to drive a vehicle with a Leicestershire reg 🤭

Fun little car, had a black one when I was commuting from Manchester to the BoT offices in London, did well for a good few years.
