I was just wondering how everyone was faring after nearly two weeks of what's described as the third 'lock-down' ? I know some here are working pretty much as usual, so that the rest of us can stay home ... thank you to those folks. We're trying to get out walking everyday ... away from others ... and have reduced shop visits to a weekly chore. I suspect we're saving money from our normal life style ... but the days do tend to blur into each other. Keeping in contact with family and friends carries on by phone, but it will be good to visit and hug eventually. We're lucky as we don't have medical issues and are financially stable ... a definite positive of advanced years How's it going for you ? Rog

Our lockdown started on 26th - Boxing Day- although we were locked down before that of course. Life is permanent lockdown, it just varies by degree!
I’ve noticed we have used a lot more gas than last year, despite a new high efficiency boiler in Sept, because we are always at home with the heating on. 4 bedroom Victorian granite house so not well insulated. But I’ve spent much less on petrol so maybe it balances out.
One year ago today we were at the Strictly live show in Birmingham, along with thousands of other screaming and unmasked people in close proximity. How things have changed!
I have a lot of jobs to do but struggling for motivation. In part because some of them eg the 3000hr inspection on my glider, have to be done outside or at least in an unheated space (garage with the door open), and it’s been bloody cold. Last week I replaced the front discs, air filter and spark plugs on my car but had to keep stopping to rush back into the house to warm my ickle finnigers!
But yes as you say, no health issues and financial stability so we are much better off than many. Scotland seems to be lagging England in % of people vaccinated which is irksome, but no doubt Nicola will somehow manage to blame Westminster even though we have received our pro rata share.

Yes, we were put in tier three back in October before the second lock-down, so we seem to have been under strict restrictions for much longer than two weeks.
We've noticed our supermarket spend is much higher ... but then we can only eat and drink at home.
On balance I think we're actually saving.

Nothing much changed here since we locked down early March last year. Apart from a couple of visits to the boat in the summer/autumn we have not been going out. OH there is a change this lockdown I am trying to convert our Waitrose C&C to deliveries, been ok so far. Brain has been working overtime and I am about to get on with a network upgrade for the house, meaning running cables down through walls and into the void under the floor, it means crawling round on the concrete screed. Also got to decide next month whether to keep my house broadband with "3" or get a phone line, I suspect the bt line will be slower and more expensive so will probably stay where we are. Luckily no health or finance issues here, unlike some others.

Doesn't really affect me. I go to work pretty much as usual, we don't wear face masks or do social distancing or any of that old bollocks, then I come home. The boaters on the mooring chat and congregate as usual. I imagine the local pubs are closed but then I only go pubbing when I'm away on the boat anyway so that doesn't affect me.
Where it will make a difference is if it is still in force in early April, because I will delay pushing off if it is and carry on working.

The Government sees how compliant you all are. This is nothing to do with 'a virus' but control of the population. And a money-making scam. You will still be wearing masks ... forever. You can forget about boating this Summer. That's far too early to release the Grip of Fear. You are afraid of everyone around you... they may have The Virus! Don't get too close! Avoid eye contact - they may want to talk! Cameras are watching. Scuttle off to the safety of your home, buy your shopping on-line. Accept cookies... or we won't let you proceed. Big Brother is watching you. Aided by Facial Recognition.

Lockdown number one wasn't too bad ..... the weather was good, I had a couple of good projects to keep me occupied not bad at all. This one is not so good, the weather is stopping me doing the jobs that I would like to get on with. I am burning a lot more diesel than normal but thinking about it , normally in winter the central heating is on for an hour in the morning on minimum during the day while I am at the boatyard (most days) then on for say 5 hours in the evening. This winter it has been on nearly all the time ....... Some people have been saying they might have saved a bit of money .... because I only very very rarely go out I don't think I've been saving anything certainly, not as much as I have spent on extra diesel

And although I'd be quite happy to go off boating this Summer there seems little point if there is nothing to do along the way. My yardstick for going away is that I can go for a ride on a preserved steam train, get off at the other end and go for a pint in a pub. I have no "fear" of it, I've said from the word "Go" that the whole thing is a gigantic hoax, and nearly a year later I've seen no evidence whatsoever to suggest that I was mistaken. I don't think the restrictions will last forever. I predict rioting on the streets this Summer if they are still in force then.

Oddly, despite the usual January blues (that I've shared often enough here and on the blog anyway) THIS lock down feels much like the previous ones. Routine is what I need to keep me going - with a plan in my head when I go to sleep of "something to do" the following day or I can't sleep due to my brain wandering off and trying to replay every bad decision I've ever made or situation I could/should have handled differently ... a sort of nocturnal 'groundhog day' thing. I keep busy doing chores that I could have done in a few days (with the right weather) in stages - take those doors I've painted ... normally, I'd have done them all in one go - instead, I've done one a day. My 'walks' always (pretty much without exception) involve buying something to 'stock up' with ... that's as much to make use of the journey and the need to carry less weight more often than a massive load less often. It is tedious though. I'm missing having a bath and in fact, at some point in the new few weeks, I'm going to (possibly ) carry out some work on the boat (wink) that requires an overnight in a hotel whilst fire-cement dries or whatever... to have a legitimate reason to have a night off the confines of the boat. When I planned this life style, January was always intended to be spent on a cruise ship somewhere - a PROPER one not this one but as you all know, the last couple of years 'changes' to my circumstances have put paid to that. It may seem strange but I'm no longer mourning the various 'losses' per say... instead, I'm mentally fast forwarding to happier future times and new adventures to be had - perhaps not in 2021 but that's ok... having braced myself to write it off anyway, ANY thing positive is a plus and I'll embrace that with open arms. I still think world governments could have been more honest about the long term prognosis - perhaps even truthful about not giving two hoots about the (financially beneficial elements) of population reduction... using the guise of protecting health services as an emotive (and generally effective) tool to maneuver "us"... I GET that it's not all about covid now but having capacity to "save Bob who's just been run over's" life but the cynic in me does wonder if another, and another and another "mutation" will set us right back to square one vaccination wise again. Let's hope not. On the plus, the diet and dry January still endures and having sneaked on the scales again, I may make it to 1 stone by Friday - fingers crossed. ETA- I'm also distracting myself of an evening by looking for retirement property abroad - having exhausted Florida (and realized the whole green card thing might be an issue) , I've found the perfect place for when I sell up over here... www.aplaceinthesun.com/property/details/ap2660245/6-bed-villa-for-sale-in-villalonga-valencia-spain

"€295,000 Priced for a quick sale! UNIQUELY SHAPED VILLA – LOOKS LIKE A BOAT!" Err, maybe that might be because it is a boat? A scrap boat toshed over with a coat of white paint and now on sale for a quarter of a million quid? Or am I just being cynical here?

I've heard there has been an enormous rise in domestic violence during the lockdown. I bet Jane's crapping herself.
