Heard on the the wireless at lunchtime that scientists are recommending not reopening pubs and restaurants until at least May. Glad I am married to an excellent cook and I have a huge stock of beer. Interesting. I've been touting June as the earliest we can expect to open, and getting shouted down for it by some. Would rather stay shut 'til we can open without restrictions.

Suspect quite a few smaller pubs will never open their doors again. This is a possibility that intrigues me. I think you're right, but: we are a small independent, we've used all our reserve cash, had all the grants that wet lead are entitled to, furloughed all staff and are now digging into the bounceback loan to pay rent etc. I suspect we'll have used half of it (£25k) by the time we get to trade without restrictions but with 12 months interest paid, and 10 years to pay it back I'm pretty confident we'll get through this. I wonder if at least some of the pubs that go under were already in trouble but hadn't recognised it.

If you can that is the way to do it, I think May is optimistic 😒 Several local micro brewers with their own tap rooms are doing click and collect and mail order to help try and stay afloat. I am doing my best to help them, even though I have cut back on weekday drinking, hence I have large stocks of beer.🌚

I miss sitting in the pub after work on a Friday, letting the stress slip away. I miss watching the football/rugby in the pub, six nations due soon, wont be the same. Doesn't matter how cool your home is, how much beer you have, its simply not the same and I miss it.

I am missing pubs ... the chat, the interaction, the atmosphere etc.
I can eat at home and if I choose drink there too, but that's not what pubs are about.
I hope as the vaccination programme rolls out they'll be given the option to open ... after all attendance is entirely optional.

Sure I miss old style pubs but they are very few and far between and usually involve driving so very little drinking and if you are not a local..;............ Also Wetherspoons dont count as pubs Five months and counting till we get back to pubs

my first (official guest) for this year has his vaccine jab booked for early Feb... and my returning lady (doing 4 weeks this year) has had hers today - so That's good news... what is less good is the uncertainty about whether they'll be allowed to come.
Assuming varying tiers, I'm just going to do my route whatever - it's " go to work if you can't work from home" after all. The ones lucky enough to have been vaccinated will probably take the pragmatic view and come (assuming transport isn't an issue) but the rest of the bookings hang by a thread.

I predict that you won't be allowed to open by June, Glastonbury Festival which takes place in the third week of June was cancelled today so the organisers obviously don't think so either. I would be surprised if you open any time in 2021 or 2022. In your position I would stop paying rent on the premises and explain to the landlord that this isn't a deferment, you simply will not pay rent without an income. Yes, you may well be evicted from the premises but in the long term this will cost you far less than continuing to flog a dead horse.

Bit mixed here. I'm enjoying the peace and quiet here in Old Barmouth and despite many of the houses being empty (Second home owners- should be banned, destroys communities) I've met some lovely people here. Been busy with several projects, all completed successfully. Less positive is a probable future battle with the landlord of next door, his chimney isn't watertight, water is running down the party wall and into my house. Even less positive was yesterday. River sprung up on some steps beside my house and eventually started seeping under my walls. I had a 7 hour battle against this with mop and bucket which I only just won before my neighbour solved it by using concrete blocks to divert the river into a sewer. Welsh Water won't be happy but better they have to deal with an extra 100,000 gallons of 'effluent' than the ground floor of my house to be flooded.

They seem to suggest the adult population will be vaccinated by autumn. Do you think we won't be lifting restrictions after that?

No, because a "new strain" which is immune to vaccination will miraculously appear then. Unless there is major social unrest- which there may well be- I personally think what we have now is the new normal. This is not and never has been about dealing with a virus, it is about establishing a tyranny.

I did wonder how u were coping in this extreme weather... Hope issues resolves..I had a similar problem both here and Horror House with next doors chimney/guttering causing damp/leak into mine I ended up having to sort it out as both neighbours refused... Good luck...

We r going through a pandemic, decisions made we may not agree with but someone has to make them... I can but hope vaccination will see us all free...
