Those pumps running constantly must be using a fair bit of diesel.

The farce continues. The cofferdams are in place. However the canal is overtopping the pilings on the West side (Pollington side). The breech isn't emptying, and the East side (Goole side) is being starved of water. Boats moored at Rawcliffe Bridge are struggling. On top of that the pumps at the Goole emergency stop gates (caisson) are failing to keep the levels up at Goole. Pictures courtesy of Mark Penn, Drone Pilot. Is it another C&RT cockup then? Who is the engineer in charge? Could it be Julie Sharman?

The diesel usage over the two sites must be massive, the pumps being used aren't exactly small. On top of that both sites are now manned 24/7, one of them in Goole since December. Then there is the cost of the plant that I think is mostly hired. Helicopter, generators, pumps, tugs, earthmoving gear, cranes etc. It's going to cost millions, and it all started with a trickle that started on December 20th and was left to fester over the Christmas break until January. Then the repair in January ended up as a complete fiasco. I don't know who the Engineer in charge is, if there is one, but I would recommend he/she stay anonymous. Would you put your name to it?

There are no words really to describe the inadequacy of the early response.....

Over at the Dog & Duck moorings in Goole. I had a row over to John. H. Vincent. It has finally succumbed.

The farce continues. The cofferdam is in place, and the word on the cut is that there's nothing wrong with the culvert, it's just the bank. The pilings across the canal to form the cofferdam were set too low. Therefore when CRT tried to bring the canal up to the normal levels while work continued on the breech site, water was topping the pilings and flooding the site. Therefore the levels are now back down on the Goole side of the cofferdam. We are now back on the bottom. The breech occurred on the 20th December, we are now into March and no end in site. The incompetence will probably continue into April. We can't find out who the head engineer is but I assume it's an out of work circus clown due to the pandemic and has found some work at the CRT.
