Yes and there was an airport one as well.
If people were bothered about it then the whole place would be overrun but of course the pension funds are a bit of an issue.
I drive past that site in Eus(less)ton and there are blokes wandering about asking for pennies from drivers. Presumably a homeless shelter nearby.
They look reasonably fit but they are not climbing trees and costing tax payers thousands of pounds to remove them and lining the pockets of the.... Oh. Hang on!
It's a scam.
Ok.
There must be a link between these eco warriors and the companies engaged to remove them. Expensive business all this aerial platform work.
Got it !
You make a lot of noise and get all agitated and meanwhile your mate with the hardware gets a nice contract to so the waste removal.
There is an incredibly large amount of rubbish on that site. It's not a very big site but they have filled it to the brim with crap.
A lot of it.

The private company N.E.T. make all the money out of these things.

Did they not learn from Newbury, cant stop these things. Not quite true. The Tory government of the time had prepared a road building gravy train, for the preferred contractors who had paid the required back handers. I can’t remember the exact number but around 15 schemes where planed of which only five got built in the end. So quite effective direct action I would have said.

I have to ask, apart from protesting-has Swampy ever had a job or done anything else ? Have to admit,Swampy sounds like the name of a vibrant, young chap.Swampy is not young. Will he go on to collect a pension, get a bus pass to climb trees further afield & get pensioner discounts at garden centres ? Just pondering...

Mental and with todays traffic it would be a constant gridlock. Much like Twyford down would be. He is quite famous and managed to live low for many years but I'm genuinely pleased he's still backing his beliefs. They might be wrong but thats his right.

The Newbury one a woman who lived over the road sent her kids to stay with the Swampy set..She felt the experience would be good for them. Apparently an uncle of the kids had joined the protestors. I like long train journeys ..I like watching the countryside....IMO we have enough railway lines criss crossing our countryside.

All the focus goes on the fast passenger trains, but we need extra capacity to move goods by rail, the extra line would be needed for that, freeing up space on the older lines. So why not make it high speed while you're about it. It's greener to move stuff by rail, especially when it's all electrified or possibly run on hydrogen. Swampy needs to look at his green principles.

I thought that was the point... local shops for local people and all that....

What exports that will generate. Don't you believe our great leader? It's your duty.

Swampy was a creation of the press and tv ... many people have sincerely held beliefs, right or wrong , but don't become the focus of the press.
The press always need to focus on personality rather than the facts ... I'm never sure if it's just because it's easier.

But back then I suppose to be heard you had to go out and do something.

I wonder how they are getting on it has been rather wet.
I know it's making a point and is commendable in a way but digging a tunnel and then occupying it at this time of year does seem rather silly.
I would have the thought the best approach for the contractors tasked with removal of protesters would just be to wait until they get hungry or tired of their own excrement.
Surely it would not take particularly long for this to happen.

I'm even happier he failed at Newbury. I remember travelling north before the bypass. Mental and with todays traffic it would be a constant gridlock. So, instead of thinking it would be better to reduce the population in a clearly overcrowded country, you think the answer is to cut down ancient forest to make yet another bypass road to save you some time and inconvenience? As a 16 year old schoolboy, what could I have done? I'm no Greta and even if I was apart from publicity has she actually achieved anything? I was about 12 when described as most controversial British motorway project ever, Twyford down was ripped open. Not a lot I could do there either. In both instances it could definitely be said that the environmental issues far outweighed the negatives. All those polluting cars running on diesel and leaded petrol clogging up the roads, just sat there in a constant traffic queue.

You weren't driving at the age of 16 so I'm not sure why you would have been overly concerned about 'gridlock' in Newbury in those days? Greta got a free ride across the Atlantic and a whole load of pocket money from her 'lectures'. Probably stuffing her face with sweets in her bedroom as we speaketh. Because it was the main route north. My mum's family are in Birmingham so we often traveled north and holidays etc.

That's the trouble with modern cars they take the enjoyment out of the voyage and the only thing you want to do is "get there" Wrong approach really if it is a pleasure trip. Enjoy the ride and if you get stuck in traffic just have a look around and see new things. and other people's number plates etc.
