In order to protect others I will be assuming, unless it is proved otherwise, that I can catch, carry and infect others with the virus after I have been vaccinated. What is the point of having the vaccine then? To make money for pharmaceutical companies, there was some bod on the news earlier saying we will have to have a shot every year.

It will become like the flu vaccine, something to have in the autumn in preperation for winter. The more I look at this the more I become convinced it wont be over soon.

I do hope you are not turning into a Conspiracy Theorist like me. They will point at you ... an Unbeliever! .. and a bad speller... (he's probably edited it by now!) ...

I may well go to the boat tomorrow, just nip over on the bike to check the kettle. Not visiting one's boat often enough can lead to depressive rantings.

It appears that the lockdowns/social distancing/improved cleaning has meant thet this Flu season has been one of the lightest ever, with very few flu cases ..... paradoxically because of this, it is going to make it much harder to work out what strains to vaccinate against next year.
Yup !!! We'll get you coming or going

What is the point of having the vaccine then? It's a sort of Religion for Sheep. A sort of talisman - you know, like the St Christopher swinging from your car mirror to protect you from accidents. You never know, God moves in mysterious ways (mostly the B429 to Chipping Campden). "One issue is how long immunity lasts for this virus. If immunity only lasts for a short time, it cannot work. This does not seem to be being discussed. If the vaccine raises antibodies, it will have an effect. But if the virus mutates or we lose our immunity, we are in trouble. It is not clear that getting the virus actually makes you immune to it in the future, and it is not clear a vaccine would either. What then? Has anyone thought that through? They have been trying to get a vaccine for HIV for the last 30 years and they have not managed it yet. There is a reason for that, and it is probably the same reason why they will not get a vaccine for this." Agreed up to to a point however there is now a drug called PREP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis ) and has been proven to prevent infection in the first place - provided it is taken before exposure. Basically, it's easier enough for folks to take a pill every day (women have been doing for birth control for years) I suspect longer term, if the current vaccine route has proven in-effective, they might go down the prep route... it won't be cheap having an entire population taking daily medication but it might be the only way.

Possibly if it had the billions that have been made available for Covid there might have been ...... also there has been some major steps forward in methods and types of vaccinations aginst viruses very recently so who knows about the future

Nothing to do with flu being re-branded as Covid then? No. Except in the minds of covidiots. At the moment according to gov data around 3% of those tested are being tested positive, during the peak it was even more. You can test positive with Covid and have other infections and symptoms including flu. The UCL study showed 86% of those tested positive for Covid had no symptoms, so it's very likely that flu victims are being recorded as Covid victims simply because they tested positive for Covid. The data is out there if you want to research it. The telling data will be the number of excess overall deaths by the end of March. However we will never know how many of the excess deaths were caused by stress, fear, cancelled operations, scans and treatment.

I’d guess the truth lies somewhere in between re covid or flu being the cause of deaths lately. Obviously covid19 death rate is being over stated. Doesn’t mean it’s not a massive problem, but it also doesn’t mean we should all hide away forever from it. Soon be March, and I don’t care what people here say, we will be released. There is no other option.

Personally I think schools will be back in March, gradual lifting of lockdown through end of March and throughout April. Fairly good news.
Social distancing such as discouraging large gatherings, mask wearing etc etc will be encouraged throughout summer. Not great but liveable with.
Next autumn/winter will be the real test - could go really well, could be back to square one or worse. If back to square one or worse then some serious adjustments about how we accept/live with the virus will need to be taken, that would be very bad news.

The extreemes keep the media in buisness too, although over the last year much of the main stream media seems to have become strangely aligned.

Mid March, sun comes out, people go nuts, numbers go up..
We plan to move the boar at easter back to the midlands, hoping lockdown is lifted by then, no pubs on route but I can live with that, question is do we have to go back round middleiwch/stoke/fradley if Shroppie is still closed south of Nantwich.
