I wonder if they had a boat called "Sea Cock". That would be quite appropriate for an offshore rated tug.
As for screw towing this was a big thing at one point as a screw driven vessel will have a greater bollard pull than a paddle driven vessel, be more manoooverable and probably less prone to damage.
