As promised - no cluttering up of @magnetman Suzuki tonka toy thread I’ve been in the garage today - it was high time my bikes had a bit of love. The end results are as follows. one shiny 32 year old ‘Onda I was hoping to start it, following my COVID incarceration I picked up my battery But thought better of hitting the starter button seeing as this was what was left in the tank. Luckily I had the sense to run the carbs dry when I laid it up, so none of that shit is in the carbs. When I laid it up i changed the engine oil so once the tank was drained and clean it was good to go right? Um, no - Annoyingly after a 10.5 year slumber the fuel tap spindle o ring has also given up the ghost so I’ve got to take it to work and overhaul it, Honda in their infinite wisdom decided to rivet the tap keep plate on rather than drill and tap it. So it needs a magic wand waving over it to sort it out. Undeterred I turned. My attention to the 41 year old LC. She scrubbed up ok, needs a new battery and a gallon of premix, no fancy smancy taps on this old timer so I’m expecting her to put up less of a fight than the Honda .

Looking good. Brings back happy memories of my CBR. Glad to know you're up and running again @gazza ! Ta! I couldn’t smell that rancid petrol though - god only knows how long that’s going to take to right itself! What CBR did you have? I’ve always fancied CBR600F2 They looked better in Red White and Blue, but the one pictured was the easiest to share from the CBR forum 🤪🍻👍 I remember them being the production racer supersport bike of choice - the racket they made at the Manx GP was something else eh mouse 🤪🍻👍

JohnV the engineering on this little machine is phenomenal - gear driven cams after the fiasco with the earlier VF750 and 1000, absolutely no way Honda where going to suffer the ignominy of not getting their flagship engine right! The cost to tool and produce this little jewel of an engine must have been incredible. Thank heavens for the Japanese not liking to loose face! The earlier model NC21 got a conventional parallel swingarm with pro link mono shock suspension, Honda went all out when they developed the RC30 with the single sided ProArm swing arm, luckily it filtered down to the road going 400 and 750. Just look at the quality of design in the rear wheel hub. The hub is eccentric so chain adjustment is carried out by rotating the hub rather than using draw bolts or snail cams as found on conventional swing arms. Rear wheel is a bit more securely mounted rather than pulling an axle bolt up tight against a pair of spacers between the swing arm fork! Sadly there was an occasions when it went tits up though - Robert Dunlop had a huge off at the ‘94 TT after the rear wheel of his RC45 collapsed, although that was a wheel manufactured by Marvic rather than HRC. www.motorcyclenews.com/sport/2002/january/dunlop-settles-for-700000-in-tt-crash-case/He recovered to ride again but sadly lost his life at the NW200. Getting back to the bike one of the great attractions of the v4 engine is how slim it is. One of the great disadvantages is how bloody awkward it is to work on - the rear cylinder down pipes are an utter pig of a job to change - luckily this one is tip top!

CBR 1000 in red white and blue. Nice! If it was an CBR 1000F That’s a big old lump of a thing! I remember there being loads of them about as a yoof in the ‘90s. For me the high point of sports bikes was up to the late ‘90s you can keep most of the stuff produced since, I don’t care that they are dynamically superior; they look a dogs breakfast compared to the stuff I like 🤪👍🍻

I remember going pillion on a fairly knackered GPZ1000RX at warp speed split lane down Talavera Way in Northampton. Absolutely bloody frightening experience for a 13 year old kid! mouse I wonder what happened to Justin and Jane’s mad lodger Mark?

And for the cars? This was not a bag of sand, it doesn’t get good gas mileage but it is great fun. Dumped in the corner by the locomotive workshop at Nene Valley railway lest some bellend smack the doors in. This was the previous one, at 140bhp it was 30 down on the current one but still a bloody good car though. Prior to that we had this belter of a car. 125bhp from a Yamaha worked 1.7, a chassis that had Richard Parry Jones magic dust sprinkled on, a gear change like a rifle bolt and seeing as it was good enough for Lieutenant Frank Bullit it was good enough for me! And that ad 👍 note the great escape bike at the end 👌👍

There's no need to be modest, both things have clearly had a lot of love and both are appreciating classics. I'd hate to leave them anywhere I couldn't see them though. And that's just one problem. I never said utility is compulsory.

That Honda is thing of beauty I must admit.
Never had a motorcycle myself and not going to get one but that is a nice machine.

That Honda is thing of beauty I must admit. Never had a motorcycle myself and not going to get one but that is a nice machine. The model it is derived from (RC30) was a triumph of engineering in the factory and on the track, and might well prove to be the peak of HRC's success. It belongs on the track (and to a museum near you soon).
